Bout to drop an SR into my S13, and I have hicas. Is it 100% necessary to get my hands on a hicas power steering pump or is there a way around it. Would a regular power steering pump eliminate hicas? If so, it wouldn't be a big deal considering that the 240sx hicas system is unreliable and practically worthless. Thanks guys.

Since he's asking if a regular p/s pump works on a hicas equipped car, your answer doesn't make any sense. You have it backwards.;o

To answer your question, the car has a hydraulic steering mechanism in the rear. I'm not really 100% sure what would happen if it didn't get any fluid. I'm guessing that it would lock it up. Maybe not...maybe the wheels will just move on their own? Your best bet is to get a hicas lock kit and rip out all hicas crap. It will replace the hydraulic steering mechanism with a solid bar that ties into the existing toe arms in the rear. It also comes with fluid return lines, but you won't be needing those since you are putting a non-hicas pump in the car. So all those lines, solenoids, and fail safe devices can be removed. You should get a FSM to see a diagram of the hicas system.

I got a hicas pump and didn't need it. I simply(my dad did) made a sleave to put around the output(there are two on hicas pumps) and i believe it should work fine. If you have hicas already, i would spend the time to find a hicas pump, or i would get the hicas removing kit that was already mentioned. but in short, you do need the pump, running with a regular one would bea real bad idea

HEY! I have a HICAS pump for you! I need a non-HICAS pump. (HICAS pump has 2 pressure ports.) Email me and we'll trade!

I live like 5 miles from you! Give me a call at 815-793-5115.

Cool, the only thing is that I haven't gotten the motor yet. I'm supposed to pick it up on June 8th from garage kwai. However, if you weren't in a big rush, then it would be no big deal for a two week wait. What's your name, so I can give you a call so we can work out the details.

The Tomei Hicas-Lock kit DOES NOT REMOVE THE HICAS RACK! It is a kit of two machined two-piece brass plates that lock the rear tie rods into place. It also has an electrical connector to eliminate the HICAS light in the dash. You will still have the weight of the HICAS back there. You need to do something about the HICAS, you can either lock it with the Tomei kit ,use a HICAS SR pump or replace the entire rear subframe with that of a non-hicas 240. I wouldn't drive the car around without doing one of those, as the rear will probably do it's own thing. If you get a Tomei kit you need to order it ASAP, mine was on backorder for about a month (just got it two weeks ago). I got it from Phase2. Hope that helps.
