I found that there were some times that HICAS felt like it helped, and sometimes it didn't. I disabled it and felt much more in control. No longer do I not know what's going on back there- the wheels are always facing the same direction now.Just because 4ws is rare doesn't make it really good...

There is a fuse you can pull. I think it was in the front left kick panel fuse box- not sure though.

I have left mine on thus far and it drives alright. Again there are some times it gives an uncanny advantage if you autocross. Then again not knowing what's going on back there is ultimately more hindrance than help to a skilled driver. I leave it on though, and autocross or drift on it. It doesn't upset things enough that you can't control them, just makes it more interesting sometimes =p

I've only noticed my system active once or twice, both times it actually helped me out.

Don't know whether I'll be keeping it active or not after the SR swap.

Really? I can feel hicas come on pretty noticably during regular driving. I drive through a roundabout pretty frequently in town though, and that or a longer than normal turn is where I feel it kick in.

I don't have any experience with it myself, but perhaps you could consult an FSM? It may have the info you need.

Unfortunately, my car is 400 miles away so I can't verify where the fuse is until late May. But it is marked. Otherwise I wouldn't have pulled the fuse. Like I said, I think its in the left kick panel fuse box.

the fuse is labeled "electronics" according to the diagram. you'll definitely know you got it when you pull it and the hicas light turns on.

my HICAS is active with my sr swap. a really skilled driver will know how to drive the car and predict what it will do. learn to drive the car. I love my hicas system and not because it's "pimp". i don't think it's unpredictable at all but if it makes you uncomfortable then by all means get rid of it.

you could always just unplug the computer on the passenger side directly behind the door. that should disable the whole system(the whole safety shut off thing).

The Hicas system is computer contolled but not through the ECU. There is a computer behind the interior panel on the passenger side directly behind the door.

A real good hicas eliminator kit will have a "magic box" to trick this computer into thinking the HICAS is working just fine. this box is what tells the light on the dash to come on indicating that there is problem with the system.

I hope that helps a little bit, i'm kindof bad at typing what I'm trying to say.

One such kit would be by Tomei--it's for sale through enjuku racing. I like the idea of SPL's best, but it's so expensive (see my thread zerothread?id=110733).

SPL's replaces the tie rods also, but tomei's while it has a magic box, leaves the whole unit in there and looks a little tricky to install also. O well.

I think the combination of the 2 kits would be ideal. However the price is definately a factor. I've toyed with the idea of getting rid of my system but i think it would be way more work than its worth.

I agree for now, but my desire for a clutch lsd is greater than my desire for 4 wheel steering. And Kaaz has told me straight up that hicas and thier clutch lsd don't mix, so I'm to assume that something about active toe changes are bad for clutch plates. Interesting thing to note for anyone thinking about that sort of purchase though. btw, spl's is some stupid price at $426, whereas tomei's kit, while I don't like the non-electronic element as much, is 175 or so.
