I recently bought a used 92 300zx TT, and i love it.

The day after I bought it my HICAS light came on. When the light comes on the power steering is affected. It suddenly looses about 3/4 of the power assist. The car is still driveable with a little extra muscle for cornering. I filled power steering and crossed my fingers, no luck. It normally fails after about 15 minutes of driving.

The odd thing is that if I turn the car off and then back on the power steering is back and the HICAS light is out. I followed the lines from the pump and they seem intact. It looks more and more like a computer issue or a bad sensor.

Anyone ever seen this, any ideas.

I would like to know as much about the issue before I go to a mechanic (if I have too), Im young and they try and rip me..

Also, I took the car to a mechanic for inspection the day before this came up. Should he of seen signs of this from computer diags. I wonder if he ripped me. Know I good tech around burbank CA?

And last of all, what gas do you recomend for this sensitive machine?

Any help would be great....

Go to http://www.ttzd.com Select 'tech' from the side menu then scroll down to 'HICAS Diagnostic' This should give you the answer to your problem. What you're describing is very common.

Stillen offers a HICAS Eliminator bar. I don't know the details of that installation.
