Post

After 10 years of nothing but Jeeps and the like, I finally settled for some luxury.

I really like the G35 Coupe. It's a helluva motor

Coupe of gripes:

1. The seatbelts seem mounted too low for me (6" tall) and angle into the side of my neck. Is there any way to fix this?

2. The Bose stereo is awful. They could do a lot better. A Grand Cherokee I had in 2002 had an Infinity Kappa system that kicks this one into touch.

What's the best way to replace everything and add some subs while I'm at it?

I read something about double din. Can someone explain what this is and why I need it?

3. I didn't get the sports suspension, figuring I could do better in the aftermarket.

What are your recommendations for the $2K range for a good sports suspension that fits a 2006 Coupe with 18" wheels?

Cheers

ET

Welcome aboard!

The belts are adjustable up / down on the B-pillar, and the "holder" pivots up and down - Pivot it all the way up. I'm 6'2" and mine's fine...

The Bose DOES suck. I have a writeup ALMOST finished, you can make significant upgrades for less than $500, with minimal effort, keeping the headunit - Stay tuned.

Double-DIN means the size of the factory head unit.

NO need for the "sports suspension", you'll want to add Tein 350Z H-Tech springs to drop it a little and replicate the OEM "sports" suspension package.

More later...

Again, welcome aboard!!!

Welcome Ted. Listen to Greg he knows what he's talking about. At least we let him think he knows, I mean he does own the joint.

Yep - Talking about the Coupe.

The seatbelt guide folds up and down, to allow entry / exit from the rear seats.

then you must be talking about some sort of extra package that i don't have. cause nothing folds or moves at all (except the seatbelt holder on the B pillar swivels) on my car. '06 with premium package...

are we talking about the same thing...i'm confused!

You guys are talking about the same thing. It is just that one arm that either folds/pivots down or up. There isn't any more adjustment than that though.

the only adjustment i have is that the seatback itself is adjustable...otherwise i see absolutely no adjustments in the seatbelt system. the seatbelt guide on the seatback near my left ear does not move at all and neither does the seat belt holder on the B pillar (except that it swivels back and forth...

for the record....what is this arm you are talking about? my car has nothing like this. is this something the dealership should have installed when they prepped the car??

Exactly. It swivels down out of the way so people can get in the back and it swivels up. It doesn't have to be up to be used. By swiveling it up, it locks there. That makes the seat belt a little higher than if you leave down. That's all it is. Not much. Maybe an inch. It is a pain in the *** to leave down anyway because it is so freakin' hard to reach.

well, the original poster was complaining about the seatbelt being uncomfortable. i have the same issue as the seatbelt likes to rub on my neck near my shoulder (i'm 6'1"). and there really is no way to adjust for this. the only thing i've found that does work a little is to take the seatbelt out of the guide on the seatback. but you are not supposed to do that. so i usually just occasionally push the belt toward the window to make it relax a little...

Hmmm.

Maybe it's a seat adjustment issue...

I'm 6'2", but I have the rear of the seat pan all the way lowered, and the front all the way up, and the seat back pretty much straight up (I hate the "laidback" driving position).

if the seatbelt guide on the seatback could be adjusted toward the window that would solve my problem...

One of the things I found lacking in my new Coupe was "fixxed" headrests (they go up and down, but not forward and backward). The stock headrests are more "restraints that prevent whiplash and thus lawsuits against Nisssan" than usable headrests for driving comfort.

SOLUTION - The M45 headrests go up & down, and front & back, AND slip right into the G35 Coupe seats. The shape of the headrests is a little different, but they easily adjust far enough forward to act as functional headrests.

I used part #86400-CS001 - and this matches the Graphite Interior.

hummm....does the M45 interior come in wheat?? if so maybe i'll have to take one for a spin and see how long it takes the dealerhship to realize the headrests have been swiped....

Stu,

Thanks for posting a solution to my other gripe

I feel like my back is in an S shape if I want the head rest close to my head. Obviously the back is up too high?

The headrests cannot actually make contact with my head in any comfortable driving position.

Why did they design a head rest like this?

It's more of a head restraint for rear whiplash than a head rest by what I can read from the manual?

I'm glad there's a headrest that can be retrofitted that fixes this.

I want one that adjust forward!

Can you post pics?

Incidentally, Infiniti's Web site has the following snippet regarding the G35 Coupe:

Quote »3-point height-adjustable front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, driver’s seat Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR), and passenger’s seat ELR and Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR)[/quote]Please tell us how????

Cheers
