Welcome to NICO! Glad we helped you along in your quest for the perfect car.

Tint is a very good thing, IMO. I use it to reduce the cabin temp during the summer months, and a good tint job is probably one of the best things you can spend your money on, since it helps the car (and its passengers) in so many ways.

mmhmm, I hate the glare of shiny windows too, not quite the look I'm going for. This is my first real car though (had a geo tracker before) so I'm new to the whole thing. Is there a certain type of tint thats better than another or do most companies use the same type of stuff?

You'll want to make sure the shop uses a good quality film such as Llumar or 3M, and that they back their installation with a warranty.

The shop I got mine from gives a lifetime warranty on the film and a limited lifetime warranty on labor, defined as: As long as I own the car. The film was Llumar 35% charcoal metallized film.

Some people say that metallized film will screw with your cell phone signal, and they swear by extruded films. I personally have not seen ANY cell phone signal degradation with the film. The only weird thing I HAVE noticed is that the tint looks rainbow if you look at it through polarized sun glasses. Hence why I no longer wear sunglasses in the car.

I had a metallic tint on my last car and though people swore up and down that it would ruin x___x (insert whatever communication device you use) I never had any problems with it. I didn't get it on my V, cause the white that Nissan uses (in my opinion) would not look good with the metallic finish. It might look perfect on yours though.

I also second using a shop with a good guarantee and history. A guarantee only lasts as long as the shop does.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your V.

"Metallized" and "Metallic" are not the same thing.

There is no "metallic" sheen or reflection in my "metallized" film.

Metallic (or reflective) tints are illegal here, and in many jurisdictions.

a metallized film just means that the film has tiny strands of metal impregnated into the film to give it stability. You can't actually SEE any of the metal.

Mine wasn't reflective, I must have used the wrong word, sorry. It did, however, have a slightly different finish than most other tints that I see. It was somewhat of a speckled grey look. I liked it a lot. And it seemed to work a lot better than mine does now (in terms of keeping heat out) even though it was not nearly as dark of a tint.

okay...

<threadjack>random tint question... would it be possible to have two colors of tint on one window... or example... a solid space of one color in the middle of another color... maybe computer cut and then placed together in the window... as for the shape... I don't know sometimes simple like an oval or... maybe not so simple...

... any thoughts??

The following is based on what the guy who did my brother's tint said. As the tint film dries, and ages, it can change shape slightly. Most often the edges will recede. In normal situations you won't notice since the edge is typically also the edge of the glass and/or covered by body. When you match two pieces of tint together it is very hard to avoid both overlap and gaps due to the unpredictable amount of shrinkage that may occur.

My brother put a slight tint on his windshield but it was MUCH to large for one piece of film. If you look closely you can see a small gap and a small overlap. Perhaps some tint 'artists' might have more experience splicing two films together, though I would imagine it would be very expensive to find someone good enough to make what you're describing a reality.

I suppose it can be done, but most "artists" who work on tint lay down a layer of tint and just use cut vinyl rather than another layer of tint to create the graphics. Making the graphics completely opaque, not translucent.

hmmm... what would I be looking at if maybe instead I just had the tint cut to that shape and placed in the rear window ... (so the whole window wouldn't be tinted, just the shape...)

All I can say is my regular, no-frills tint job was $250.
