Why can't you import your old car into Mexico? Well I think that Mexico does not want to become a big auto scrap yard with our discards, is why. Mexico does have a rather substantial auto manufacturing industry also.
You can import up to date cars into Mexico though. I think that a less then 10 year old car imported into Mexico by a Mexican citizen must have certain taxes paid: Import tax, value added tax, and probably other taxes also. You can probably obtain all this information from the local TJ office of "la duana, a la frontera or by doing a search on the internet, maybe? Why don't you go there and let us know. Who knows, there may well be a big American exodus of citizens making the move to Mexico because of cheap GAZ ? ? ? ME, well I would like to live in Mexico not for the gas but for the Negra Modelo? ? ? and nice senoritas ? ? ?
I work with Mexicans, H2B visa workers, and they buy cars and trucks here to bring back home and they know which year models are tax free or minimum taxes. Some guys make good deals here and re-sell in Mexico. They like small pick-ups, Rangers, Nissans, Chevvy S10's and small vans US made. They don't go much for anything Japanese except Nissan and nothing from Europe. They like Fords and Chevvys! ! ! and Fords and Chevvys ! ! ! or GM products. Also Jeeps cherokee but not overly so.
You will have to buy a less then 10 year old Infinity Q45, and, they are cheap and getting cheaper. So when your un-importable Infinity Q45"craps" out for good just go buy a nice low mileage 2000 or so then you can drive around TJ in style and really score with the chicas? ? ?hmmm
Have fun
