Hey everyone, I just got a 1990 240sx black. I don't know much about this car at all. So, I have a few questions.

Any common problems I should be aware of?

What modifications are most effective in getting this baby to move? Any good websites?

I didn't know there was such a big 240sx community, this is great. Thanks a lot.

Startup Rattle-Most likely a timing chain issue.EGR system-Has a tedency to get clogged and doesn't function properly. PITA to pass emissions if not fixed.

Other than that, just shear age. Time/Mileage will take it's toll on a car if not taken care of properly. I found this out the hard way. Lost patience with my first car, bought another. No big loss though, I now have a track car :)

This site also has a lot of good information on it about everything from problems to performance options.

mmm you drive an m3? tasty.

anyway, look for rust under the rear spoiler, leaky hatch, leaky sunroof, timing chain rattle of death, un-removable shift knob, slowness, random garbage in rear side panels. Plus all of the average "with age" junk, bad bushings, rust, blown shocks etc..

<--- check out the sponsers to the left of your screen.

Definately check the rear side panels. I found a bunch of snap-on tools in my 90:D

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to check all that out. One more question, how does the 240 drive in winter? I figured it would still be better than my modded M3 with 245 T-1s.

in the snow its ok if you know what you're doing but its alot easier in a bmw since they are heavier.

Dang I wish I found tools there. I found a jar of orange marmelade. Yeah like said before just check for hatch lid rust, under the spoiler and such.

Welcome. 240 is the most reliable car I have owned even with a turbo. Watch out for timing chain rattle and the frame rails from rusting out, or even smashed. If you are going to drive the car in the winter get some good tires and through some weight in the back. Also all I found in the rear side panels was tree bark from my first 240 I bought. Nick
