I have a 1974 260Z (77K miles) that I'm having a problem with. (It probably doesn't matter but incase it does my Z was the first production model with the 260Z engine, but the 240Z body style). The problem I'm having is at times it flat out won't even turn over. No crank and it's not the battery. I know about the seat belt and the button inside the engine acting like a kill switch. I've had it towed to the repair shop twice and when they get it they can't find the problem and the car starts for them.

Has anyone experienced this problem. This is very frustrating as you can imagine.

thanks in advance...Mtsky56

does it have a safety switch on the clutch?

I can't remember if the cars have them or not...

74 was the only year with the 260Z engine so you have carbs? do you also have 240Z style tails? I've seen carb'd 260's but they've all had the 280z style tails

and whats this about the seatbelt? there is nothing in thefactory wiring to inhibit starting with the seatbelt, honeslty I'm not even sure if the 260Z had a cluthc saftey swithc, not sure when they added it, I know the 71's didn't have it and I know 77 did, so somehwere int hemiddle they added it

back on point, when you turn the key, the engine turns? or nothing?

i have about the same exact car, and i do have similar problems. this maybe a glitch with the car. until i read your thread i thought that it was a problem with the after market starter on my car that the previous owner installed. you are not alone.

however my car does start after a little coaxing most of the time without to much trouble.
