We all want thing but we must ask our selves is it worth the time and money, trust me you will need a lot of money and maybe a day for labor.

here is an article on installing the spoiler: zerothread?id=273340

If it were me I would buy the trunk with the spoiler attached and make sure the trunk is in in good shape and same color, that way you save money and you can always go back to the original trunk with out a spoiler if needed.

But besides the spoiler you need the Torsion bars: $28 right, $29 left, Torsion bar clip: $2.54, upper spacer for spoiler: $8.88 and you need the sun deck with out a the 3rd brake light and it need to match the interior color as well but this is probably better found at a junk yard.

I think it can be be done though.

You also need a different brake controller.

Since you asked, the best thing you could do to make your car look better is to lose the Poop Boys chrome eyebrow trim.

What do you mean by brake controller? Is it the brake sensor?

I never understood the fascination of adding the rear spoiler to the Q. To me it looks tacked on aftermarket, and cheapens the look of an elegant design.

I can understand your opinion because the spoiler only covers the trunk and if it were to maybe blend into the quarter panels that would help some more i guess.

But I am also at a cross roads on the spoiler, Now I am not looking for one but if I found one for cheap I might go for it.

Two advantages.

It is aerodynamically efficient and reduces lift and drag.

It moves the CHMBL to the spoiler and out of the backlight vision area and the CHMBL does not reflect off the rear backlight, so a different rear packgage shelf is required also.

Since there is only one bulb in the spoiler's CHMBL, it requires a different controller.

But while reducing drag you add about 30 pounds to the car, plus it won't reduce drag that much to be even noticeable will it?

Also where is the controller located and how much is it?

I'll just put it out there that I do have a 'T' spoiler plus moldings, 3rd brakelight, and all hardware to mount it. I even have those plastic clips that go into your trunk.

For sale if you want it + I'll sell it for a very good price!

To answer the OP's question Japino has what you need to mount the spoiler. > The moldings are a 2 piece perimeter gasket to seal the spoiler to the trunk and a keyhole gasket.> The 3rd brake light (and lens) is mounted in the center cavity of the spoiler.> The hardware consists of a pair of one-time use plastic fasteners for the outer top edge. You can probably only get these at the stealership. The rest of the fasteners are stainless steet metric nuts, bolts, and SS and rubber washers that can be bought at Ace Hardware for 1/4 of what the stealership charges.

You won't need a brake lamp sensor since you're adding one lamp with the spoiler light (one bulb). If you remove the rear speaker deck and its 3rd brake light (2 bulbs) and replace it with a deck with no light you'll need to get the "touring" brake lamp sensor.

Mounting the spoiler takes a lot of courage since you have to drill 5 or 6 large holes in your mint trunk lid. Drilling the first hole hurts the most. After that you're pretty numb. Measure carefully before drilling but if you're off by a small amount the rubber washers do a good job of sealing out moisture.

I've let two sets of trunk lid torsion bars go to the salvage yard because I couldn't figure out how to remove them. I guess I wasn't enough of a contortionist to lay in the trunk and look closer.

They're not a requirement on a spoiler trunk but without the torsion bars you've got to be careful not to slam the trunk every time it's closed. It's not hard for me to remember but the wife and others often forget and slam it shut.

About 5 lbs. and aerodynamic effects not really meanigful below 60 mph. A lot more noticeable at 125 mph and up.

I don't think anyone without a machine shop can replace the torsion bars.

The torsion bars in my Maxima's trunk failed (actually EXPLODED) about 6 years ago. I've torn junkyard Maximas apart trying to see how to swap good bars back in, and as far as I can see, even if I can get the good bars OUT of the old car, I won't be able to get them INTO my car without seriously tearing into the trunk and rear parcel shelf, drilling out rivets, then using bolts to put everything back together. I assume the Q is the same way.

New is best for those.

Thats why Joe is best at only $57 plus shipping for the pair. But remember this moth you get an additional 10% off so that makes it 35% off of MSRP.

But...the one big question still remains:How do you get them INTO your trunk?

That's not rhetorical, I'd love to know so I can fix the Maxima's trunk after all these years.

Exactly I will take a look and see how hard it is to do on a Q45, I know if the gas tank was out it would be much easier But I would like to know just like you.

But my other question is: if I add the Q45T spring will the trunk rise up completely when opened from the switch on the driver door panel?

When I pop my non-spoilered trunk from the door switch, it unlocks the striker but the trunk doesn't go fully open. When I took a spoiler from a donor Q45T the trunk stayed open with a pretty good amount of force.

I'd imagine if you had the T torsion bars on a non-T trunk, opening the trunk from the switch would give you an uncomfortable feeling as the trunk flies open, bouncing fully open until it settles. No thanks. Its the same feeling you get when someone slams your door too hard.

Change the springs, buy a small pumpkin and pull up next to this group. Would the Q be competitive?

I had a '92 standard (no spoiler) and now have a '95"t" with the spoiler. I FAR prefer the clean look of the '92 without the spoiler. The spoiler looks like an aftermarket add-on - way out of place with the clean and seamless look of the Q. And, no offense, I know you didn't ask, but I think your Q would look cleaner and more elegant without the chrome on the wheelarches. Lowering it an inch in back and 1 1/2" in front would make it look super.

I agree, the spoiler cheapens the look of the car, like you went to pepboys or jc whitney, spent $29 and added it on. Certainly doesnt look like something worthy of placing on a a 50K+ flagship sedan.

There are only a handful of things on my Q that I hate. The spoiler is numero uno. If that mother wasn't bolted on, I'd remove it and repaint the trunk.

I like the look of the touring spoiler. The car still looks great without it, but the spoiler finishes off the rear nicely. Due to the way the rear face is slightly curved forward at the top, the spoiler strengthens the profile a lot.

I do wish it blended into the deck a little better, but it's a small complaint.

I wonder what a rear face-only spoiler similar to what the 6th gen Maxima has would look like on the Q...

I like because it works and it gets the CHMBL out of view and there are no reflections in my back light.

I have to agree with Max on this. I like the Q a lot. I like it even more with the spoiler. I think when you de-badge the trunk spoiler it really brings a clean look across the back. I also think the clean look is color associated.

Here are some pics of my 94 Q with the rear spoiler. You decide if it works for you.

Shamless Plug: I have a 1991 touring trunk lid with a factory spoiler. Color is pearl white. Sorry, no torsion bars available.

As for removing the torsion bars, I used a long (like 36") screw driver / crow bar to unhook the ends from the brackets at each end of the rods. The rods are are sorta by the rear speakers, in the trunk, on the backside of the package shelf.

Tacked on, but functional. Depends which you value more, function or esthetics, while understanding aerodynamic benefits with it are minimal below triple digit speeds.

To me the spoiler makes the Q look pretty sporty but I don't like the fact that it doesn't cover the entire trunk lid or any of the quarter panels..

This is a very nice Q though:

Does anyone have any more info or pics on this Q45?
