Hi all I am new here and would like some insite, I am presently looking at a 01 Qx4 , which has 100k just turned. This car is very clean ,Very clean I havent had it on a lift yet, but a mechanic did a thorough look without a lift and said it is super clean, synthetic oil always used and the truck is garage kept. Vin #number check looks fine, is 110k to many miles , is there a timing chain or belt in the 01 .. Will I like this truck? any advice and feedback would be nice thanks

Hi,

Sounds like you want it? If you like it, and get a good deal, then why not!

Oh, timing chain and 100k or 110k may or may not be too much depending on how it was maintained / driven for that time! But you probably already knew that?

I have an 01 QX4 with 110k miles and I love it! I've had it for over three years and I've never had any regrets or any second thoughts about buying it. If the Q you're looking at has been properly maintained and the price is right, go for it!

Yeah as long as all maintenance was done, it was kept well, and you get a good deal, these pathies and qx4's will last you far past 150k as long as you take care of rust, and maintenance. then you will get many miles out of it.

I'm about to hit 200K miles on my 01 QX4 and I couldn't be happier. Most people can't believe it's an '01. These SUV's hold up extremely well when properly maintained. I keep a spread sheet of all of the maintenance I've done @ what mileage, I'll check it for what I did around 100K.

The stereo. I would go for whichever one is cleaner and has lower mileage. There's very few differences between the two vehicles.

No way dude, that's some excellent advice. I never would have though about going for the newer vehicle is all values were the same. Just playing with ya bro.

lol , but you have to admit. there are always people who will ask that question, and mabye he doesn't know if there are practically no differences between an 01 and 02, perhaps he thinks more stuff in the 02 is known to go bad etc. anyways you get my point of posting common sense things sometimes.

Update , the 2002 is blue very nice but I saw it in the rain did not see it without raindrops on it, Drove it, a tiny bit of shimmy in the steering wheel upon braking from about 30 mph but very little,...??-- the owners produced a car fax saying that the car was involved in a collision,, BUT THEY,, the owners, swear it was not .. .in a collision. and that the car fax is wrong.. The other Qx4 is a grey one and looks be a little cleaner in the engine compartment, with newer tires , I am not sure yet what color scheme I like the best, yes they are asking more for th 02. I was told that I can have my mechanic put it ( the 02 )on a lift and check it out as soon as I want to,,

hm seems they might be lieing about the 02 qx4 not being in a collision when the carfax says it was, but definitely , get a trusted mechanic to check it out if that's the one your gonna go with, and a BLUE qx4, as in that rare colour that was only available on the 03 pathy and was VERY limited, never seen a QX4 in that color, do you have any pictures of the cars?

If the 02 checks out and everything is fine, I would go with it since it's newer and it's blue. Mine's silver and I find it kinda boring.

Sounds like you don't need anymore help. If I was to get another one, which I would in a second, I'd get silver for sure. I've got a black with silver trim and the black is a real pain.

I'd advise going with the '01 from the sounds of things. The '02 has too many unknowns from what you are saying. The red flags are there.Send pics when you bring it home. You'll love it.

Carfaxes (car-foxes) are not 100% correct all the time. They usually only contain information that was reported through an insurance company, but if it makes you feel better, I believe Carfax has a buy-back guarantee.

If the onwers can show that the accident repair was taken care of at a reputable shop, their price should be close to what the vehicle with those miles is worth. If documentation cannot be produced, than the the price should be near or below that of the '01.

The key to a successful used car purchase is documentation, documentation, documentation.

Without proof of major service or service work done, the "value" of the car is less than published book values.

Finally, you have the power to haggle. Make a reasonable offere and the seller should accept it, but nothing says they have too.

First question. Am I correct in that the 01 has a timing chain not a belt? I have blown a few chains in my old Pontiacs and Am conscious of it. In my homework I have beem told it the 01 has a chain am I correct ?? and what is the Changing intervals? Thanks for your help . And what do you feel I should do when I take over ownership.
