I am a new member and I am looking to possibly replace my totaled car with a q45... I am looking on craigslist every day for new q45 posts... I am pretty set on getting a 94-96 body style so I just have some questions about the particular cars I am looking at (don't worry, i have already read the stickies and i am pretty certain i am more knowledgeable than i was an hour ago on the car)

Anyways, I found a 94 q45 and I got a pretty detailed picture from the owner of the common rust spot between the fender and rear bumper... now, my question is, am i seeing orange peeling or is it just how it is supposed to be? I read that the q45 has some of the best paint out there so I am turning to you guys for clarification...

Thanks in advance!

It has definitly been poorly repainted at some point....probobly due to prior rust repair in the same area it is currently rusting- it is almost impossible to permanently repair this rust without cutting out the quarterpanel and replacing with a new panel- I was quoted over $3000 to do both sides of car with NO guarantee it would not resurface.

I would expand your search and ONLY purchase a old q45 that has lived far away from the rust belt ITS ENTIRE LIFE.....My Q will ultimately die from rust before it wears out mechanically. Also be sure to check for rust up in the front shock towers and frame rails, common on 90-96Q exposed to rust belt or coastal areas. Infiniti really dropped the ball on protecting the G50 from rust issues-I think they got it right with the 97+....never saw a single one with rust yet, and the 97 is 12 years old now.

Welcome to NICO

Your what we call smart, Because you did your homework before hand

But that's just rust the "orange" spot it look more brown to me.

But get the service history from a local Infiniti Dealer and get a Car fax as well (make him pay for the carfax)

when i said the orange peel, i meant what is seen about 2 or 3 inches above the fender... look at the reflections closely...

thanks for the welcome!

some other questions:how can you tell if it is a q45, q45a or q45t? i have seen some with the t badge but is there an a badged q45 out there? does the q45t also have the active suspension like the q45a?

i was never to fond of the shift knob on the car... can that be replaced?

If you're looking in the Chicago area you will find the even some of the best maintained cars rust at the point the rear fender well meets the rear door opening. I have had 4 of these cars and they all did it. I have chosen rather than to spend big bucks doing body work on these cars to do cosmetic repairs and live with it. The salt in the winter eats them up. Fender looks a little wavy to me. If you are giving this one serious consideration look for more bondo in that fender or run a carfax on it. Bet it's been hit back there.

What wrong with the gated shifter?

But if you MUST replace the shifter then pull up on the shifter button on top of the shifter with a flat head screw driver then get a 12 MM deep throat socket and take it out.

if its a Q45A it will have a knob in the center console that says H and N.

If its a Q45T it will have a rear Rack, BBS wheels or a spoiler, But people like to add both BBS wheels and the spoiler because they look nice.

Can you circle in the picture what you mean then re upload?

Is yours a Q45T?

Sorry a Q45T DOES not have active suspension,

1.They couldn't fit it all in one car or

2. Because coming out with the perfect Q/Car is just to soon for the world and they wanted to save that for 2010 when the Q45 is supposed to come back

3. They thought maintenance cost would be through the roof.

The first seller can't spell yet he spells out his phone number= Doesn't look good to me.

The second one has no caps which cost $39 each at Joe who is with Infiniti of Scottsdale, Arizona=Too many mile for a car with no service history

The third looks like a base with a pearl paint job, Which is worth more because the paint is better possibly thicker or the process in which it was applied to the car was better than say any other Q45 paint.

I would go with the first car only because at an auction your screwed when you take chances, At least with a private sale you can egg his house.

Finding a nice 10+ year old noncorroded steel bodied car from the rust belt is like finding a virgin in a Tiajuana whore house. Not impossible, but not very likely.
