Ever wonder why the high '6th gear' in the manual mode keeps the engine reving ~300 rpm's higher than at the same speed in the D auto mode? I just think the high 6th gear should be at the same ratio as D when cruising.

When I use the manual mode I feel like it really should be a 7 speed. Go through gears 1-6, then flip the shifter back to the right into D.

Anyone else think about this?

I completely agree and have thought about this myself. It seems like they spread out the gear ratios like this:

|--1--2--3--4--5--6--|

Instead of this:

|1---2---3---4---5---6|

It always makes me uncomfortable driving on the highway in manual knowing that I could save on gas by switching to automatic, which is ironic.

Good to know I'm not the only one seeing this!

I also agree. I don't get why it's like this. They should just have 7 gears instead. I would love to use the paddle shifters, but to save a bit of gas, I have to push the lever to D instead of sport mode. Do cars have firmware upgrades like computers? Maybe the 09's will have a fix on this. It's actually a bit annoying that I can't fully enjoy the paddle shifters/sports mode to it's full extent while saving gas on the "last" gear.
