I introduced myself last week on the main forum.

I am quite sure I will be driving around in a G37 sedan very soon. I finally went for a test drive yesterday and drove a 2009 G37 and also a 2012 Volvo S60 T5.

The 37 had a very nice ride that seemed solid and pretty smooth while still feeling taught and sporting. I liked the fit and finish and the car was a lot quieter than I thought it would be. The steering wheel had a nice feel and weight to it and seemed a lot smaller than wheels I have had in the past. I thought that the engine pulled nicely in the lower RPMs and once it went ove 4000 it really pulled hard. I was impressed. The throttle was not as touchy as I have read about.

The stereo seemed good but not great (did not see how the settings were). Seats were comfortable and I would say it was the second best feeling car I ever drove.

The best was a 2009 BMW 335. Everything on that car felt great and I would be happy to have one except I do not trust the reliability of them. The g37 is not far behind at all IMO and is the better car because I would trust it a lot more, again JMO.

The Volvo S60 T5. I was surprised. Seemed very nice with a slightly softer ride. Did not pull as hard as the G but was not slow either. Torque steer was there but not viscous like on a previous car I had. Seats were COMFORTABLE! They did not have great lateral support. The interior was nice and different with the styling. You can feel the trans downshift as you brake but the redline is a little over the powerband. The stereo sounded great and there seemed to be more rear legroom than the G.

Bottom line, I still want the G37! The wife wanted me to try the Volvo because of their safety record and they do seem pretty reliable. I could drive the S60 and be satisfied but the 37 would make me much happier.

I will be looking around for a good deal on a 2009 or a 2010 g37x and pull the trigger when ready. In the mean time my truck is still running good and getting closer to being paid off!

Sounds about right! Did it have the sport option?

No sport option on that one. It was red with a tan interior and wood trim. I really liked it but I would not buy it in red, do not feel like getting pulled over or getting other attention ( people trying to race).

I drove that one because I wanted to get a good feeling for the G and that was the one that wasn't blocked in on the lot. They did have an 09 that was a 37x sport and also a standard 2010 as well. The 10 was the blue slate and looked really nice but it was raining and I didn't want the guy out there moving cars around in a thunderstorm just so I could drive it.

sport package is not worth it for a 2010 G37x... (i believe 2011+ g37xS actually get a ful sport package) its just visual stuff mostly, dont even get the bigger brakes which is the major thing in the sport package on the non-AWD Gs. I got the prem, nav, wood packages and then added the paddle shifters and upgraded my brakes myself. (you cant buy a G37 with wood trim and paddle shifters)

reliablity wise the car seems bullet proof... im at 72k miles on my 2010 g37x I brought new, with many track days, and road trips nothing has failed. I do not baby my car, but i am anal about the maintence which i do myself. Maintence is just normal stuff... fluids, filters, brakes, and tires so its been cheap to maintain this luxury sports car.

We test drove a T6 S60 last year before we got our EX35, interestingly we thought the seats in the S60 were less comfortable and had less rear space than the G37 sedan has. It is a nice car though.

Not to defend a car that I am not even getting, it was the backseat! I felt like I was sitting in my couch (which is neither soft or too firm). The front seat I do not really remember as well.

How do you add the paddle shifters?

When i was 22 years old just before i was drafted into the US Army, I had a 1953 Cadillac for a few months that had a big back seat. Loved getting laid in that car. :chuckle:
Ahh the good old days :)

when you get the paddle shifters, install them your self, its not very hard, and you will save $200 at least.

The best part about the paddle shifters is they work anytime, you dont have to be in DS mode to use them. only difference is that if you use them in D mode its only tempary control of the transmission. In D mode as soon as the shifters are "ilde" the car returns to D mode. But in DS mode when you use the paddle shifters you stay in manual mode until you shift back to D mode.
