Umm...sorry. I didn't get any of that either.

Why would you want to try that? I don't know if it's possible or not, but I'm pretty sure it would do damage.

I can't say anything about tractor-trailer rigs, having never driven one, but anyone who tries to do that to a passenger vehicle is just asking for trouble.

What he's asking, folks, is if you can shift the transmission without the clutch on a Versa.

It is possible, on any vehicle, to do this. However, passenger vehicle clutches and transmissions ARE NOT DESIGNED TO BE OPERATED IN THIS MANNER! Doing so with SERIOUSLY damage your transmission!

Use the clutch, that's what it's for.

Of course it's possible, but don't do it, there is no reason to.

Or here; http://www.learnenglish.de/ Seriously, I thought this was about a souped-up Nissan Quest, only to find out he's learning to drive a TT, and something about his Versa... ugh.

wow un friggin believable. I get banned, and bishop and 07vsdn are just acting like pricks, I hope the mods do the same to them. This forum is on the world wide web, so there are a lot of people here that may not be very profecient with english, but that does not give you the right to bash him with smart *** remarks. Why him, because he is latino? What about Adola and Xin w/e his name is from China I think, why didn't you make fun of them? That is freakin stupid.

I agree with Clipsed to a certain extent, let's give some credit to 'latino' for trying to post a question in his second language. I would like to see how bishop and/or 07versasdn write in a foreign language . Anyway I'm hispanic too and I don't feel by any means offended by their ignorant comments.

And I got yelled at for continuing my war against the capslock key...

I was able to understand most of it, surprisingly, because my father had taught me how to shift his 98 frontier without using the clutch, a neat trick, but not to be done on a regular basis.

YES you can shift without pushing in the clutch and NO it doesn't do any damage to your car...unless you do it wrong. I don't know where it is on a Versa but i remember on my friends rx7 it should shift the car at 3500 rpms without pushing in the clutch and it would slide in smoothly. I'll test it out on my car when they makesperformance clutches so I dont have to worry about needing a new clutch when I have one ready.

The key being "if you do it right", which is a mighty big if.

Also, it takes longer for the car to match speeds to the correct gear than it does to shift using the clutch.

It's a bad idea, all around.

And Clipsed... if you have a complaint against how the forum is moderated, take it up with an Admin, don't post it in a thread.

I apologize about my comments, I see how that could have been taken as a racist comment, and it was in no way meant to be as such. I am not a racist, just a horrible comedian. Language barriers are a hot-button issue in my area, with 99% of the people up here hanging onto the "learn the language or leave" mindset. I should have a more open-mind about these things. Again, I apologize.

Which is correct but its something you can do to impress your friends that know little to nothing about cars.

I have found that most of my friends that know very little about cars are also not easily impressed by cars either.

I'm sure your friends would be very impressed as they watch you screw up your transmission. Dunno why anyone would want to shift without the clutch. Even if it's technically possible.

it is possible, and if you do it right, it won't ruin anything if you know how to match the speed of the engine with the speed of the transmission. It is not a task that I recommend, but if anything should ever happen to the car, it is nice to know how to do it. I was on the freeway once when I had no idea what happened to my car, the pedal fell to the floor, and was stuck. I was able to put the car in 1st, and start it, to get it off of the freeway, luckily I was not far from my dads house, so I had him come over and stay behind me while I drove the car about 4 miles to his house without using the clutch. I thought the clutch had gone bad, halfway through and my dad guiding me getting the transmission off of the car, he looked down pointing out some bolts, and saw that the problem was that my clutch cable ripped when it came off of the mount and was being touched by the PS pulley. There is no reason to do this on a new car, while it is cool and fun to do if you know how to match speeds, it is not something to do constantly and all the time, especially on the Versa. I am so good at it that I cruise on the streets without using the clutch when traffic is bad and I get tired of pressing the clutch all the time, but you have to remember my car is beyond broken in (270,000 miles) and I know wth I am doing.
