it is possible, and if you do it right, it won't ruin anything if you know how to match the speed of the engine with the speed of the transmission. It is not a task that I recommend, but if anything should ever happen to the car, it is nice to know how to do it. I was on the freeway once when I had no idea what happened to my car, the pedal fell to the floor, and was stuck. I was able to put the car in 1st, and start it, to get it off of the freeway, luckily I was not far from my dads house, so I had him come over and stay behind me while I drove the car about 4 miles to his house without using the clutch. I thought the clutch had gone bad, halfway through and my dad guiding me getting the transmission off of the car, he looked down pointing out some bolts, and saw that the problem was that my clutch cable ripped when it came off of the mount and was being touched by the PS pulley. There is no reason to do this on a new car, while it is cool and fun to do if you know how to match speeds, it is not something to do constantly and all the time, especially on the Versa. I am so good at it that I cruise on the streets without using the clutch when traffic is bad and I get tired of pressing the clutch all the time, but you have to remember my car is beyond broken in (270,000 miles) and I know wth I am doing.
