Well, took her off the ramps for the first drive in over a month just now. There is an exhaust leak either at the head or the turbo, and there is that annoying whir sound that I described in another thread (Yes Ryan, I reset the timing and tension of the timing belt) and it is still there. Comming from the top of the engie, possibly at the front. I will look more into this later. The motor heats up well (there is some latent oil in the coolant that I am stull trying to flush out from the oil leak from even another thread). I didn't whale on it, but I did dip into boost a bit (damn, that felt good) and when I put her back up on the ramps, there were no leaks and the radiator hoses were firm, but had plenty of give to them for me to say that the cooling system seems free of combustion gasses.

So, any more thoughts on the whirring? It only happens about 1k RPM. Sounds mechanical, not like a leak or anything. I'm stumped. I'm letting her cool so I can check on the exhaust leak, and check for coolant level. Hopefully, after this weekend, I will be back boosting everyday! Thanks for all the help guys!

You get any oil, fluids on the timing belt? that will cause it.

How long you run the car for? how about bearing on the tensior and idler pulley?

crank angle sensor maybe?

we had a similar noise it was the belt being over tight.

No, any time the belt was exposed, there were no fluids in the engine. The noise was there the first time I fired it up, and there was no extra tension in the belt. I pulled it apart and increased the tension, but the noise is still there. It could be the CAS I guess. Anything that can be done to remedy that?

I ran it for 10 minutes in the air, then 10 minutes on the street. I dunno....More work tomorrow I guess....

I would think it's either the CAS, or the tensioner or the guide. I can't think of anything else that would do that.
