lsd should be first, then suspension. Forget about power for awhile, S-chasis cars are weak untill you do suspension and lsd anyway.

I would suggest suspension first, in which I reccomend sway bars. If those are too hard for you to install, then get strut tower braces.

I agree, suspension is a good place to start. struts/springs can be expensive for a student though (I feel your pain man). Sway bars will improve your handling. Depending on how much you like your current wheels, or how long you think you'll be stuck with them, a good set of high grip tires will improve your handling also, as they are the only part of the car that makes contact with the road-tire selection has a big impact on handling potential. Note that some mods like coilovers may require you to buy wheel spacers of different wheels, that's why I was saying if you think you'll have the current ones for a while.

Fix anything that is wrong. Then tune up. I would start on suspension after all the general stuff is out of the way.

thanks for the replies guys! Just wanted to let you know i have fixed one strut, and planning on working on the others this weekend. I hopefully will put some lowering springs to lower it 1 1/4 and front right at an inch. But thanks for the feedback.

Just make sure you upgrade the struts at the same time. And get a good combination. 10 year old struts aren't the greatest thing to use for lowering .

Yes, get it running to close to stock as possible, then suspension like the other guys said, that's what I did .

Get it running reliably (which it might already be doing... it IS a Nissan, after all... LOL) and then start stiffening the chassis. Sway bars and/or STBs. From there, drop it as you like and repair/replace parts as you find need to do so.

Good luck and welcome!

What do you guys do for a tune up?I'm guessing filters, plugs, and fluid changes. The only thing I can think of after that is belts and hoses, but seems like overkill (unless they obviously need replacing)

Assuming he bought the car used, the main benefit would be that he then KNOWS his recent maintenance for sure. Filters/Plugs/Fluid Change. Check the belts for proper tension, inspect the belts for damage. Changing them at this point may indeed be abit overkill.

Or this car may have come from a family member, in which case the maintenance is known. Personally, I am going to do belts when I get some cash, but that's because I am leaking oil from the front crankseal, and I have to remove the belts anyways.

I know that this is a little off topic....

dfw240_EE : how hard is it to change the front crankcase seal (and/or the crankshaft seal)? I am almost certain that my car leaks from the front crankSHAFT seal, and I'm trying to decide how hard and how in depth the repair would be.... It's not leaking really bad though (just enough to notice, but not enough to noticably drip)

Thanks and sorry for getting off topic

and for the record: upgrade the suspension, then possibly exhaust and intake (although, I'm probably going to upgrade my exhaust first b/c my current one is shot and won't pass inspection).... Good luck!

dont do crap cuz throwing a little bit of cash isnt going to improve much. save up 10-12k =) you could handle a lot of stuff 2k coilovers 1k lsd, bucket seat/harness, paint job, crazy wheels and restore the interior to brandnew condition thatll be pretty nice

Not sure, haven't tried it yet. Actually, Juujai, for much less than $1000 I bet he could have it tuned up nicely.

Arrow, there is a thread started by me in tech titled "Oil Leak". The procedure is described there.

how much money you have? Follow the general advise about tuneup/checkup, then some proper footwork, and if you still have the cash, look into I/H/E combo.

Beware though, after you suspension is upgraded, you will realise just how much power you are lacking.
