What's up again guys... I still have yet to pass my emissions inspection in Missouri, and I only have 3 days until my temporary tags expire! When I start the car cold, it jumps, stumbles, and almost turns off; then I hit the gas, it does it once more, I hit the gas, and everything runs fine. Temperature sensor? The previous owner said it wasn't Ohming out correctly. My car also gets fairly bad gas mileage for its condition. Here's what I've done to my car and the emissions results:

1.) Replaced distributor cap and rotor2.) Replaced spark plugs and wires with Bosch Platinum3.) Checked Ohm resistance on all fuel injectors: All were approx. 14.8 Ohms (computer at BP said it should be around 13 Ohms)4.) Checked compression on all four pistons... 179 PSI on each piston across the board!!! Wow, I couldn't believe this. Pretty close to perfect! I mean, I do have 100,000 origional miles on it...5.) Used a concentrated fuel system cleaner... Car runs better but doesn't pass emissions!6.) Used full tank of premium gasoline during the test.7.) Replaced fuel filter

So, the emissions test said this:

Hydrocarbons: My reading: 2.4221 grams/mile Standard: 0.8000 grams/mileCarbon Monoxide: My reading: 77.7062 grams/mile Standard: 15.0000 grams/mileOxides of Nitrogen: My reading: 1.9116 grams/mile Standard: 2.0000 grams/mileCarbon Dioxide: My reading: 380.2988 grams/mile Standard: No standard

Somebody HELP!!! I can't figure out what's wrong... I'm pretty new at this "tuning" stuff. Could it be the catalytic converter? How about the O2 sensor? I need help guys. Thanks!!!

P.S. That signature is for my younger brother's car... Mine is also an '89 coupe, but my stupid computer is not letting me log on to my name since my brother is registered on it.

Did you buy it from a dealer? They are responsible for getting it past emissions

Run ECU check, then replace whatever sensors gone bad

The car is running rich. If you know the coolant temp sensor is throwing high resistances then change it out. The car is set up to run rich when the motor is cold. You can also try the O2 sensor as it can also cause this problem. Finally, make sure the car is warmed up all the way when you go in.

Guys... It still won't pass even after changing the O2 sensor and Temperature sensor! I don't know what to do and I'm getting desperate... Is this my catalytic converter doing this? Help!

P.S. The guys up at Autozone GAVE me some additive to put in my gas tank and told me to tell them if it works. I'll let you know what happens, but I want to know what's really wrong with my car. It runs fine but gets bad gas mileage!

an injector is probobly stuck open, that would cause the bad mileage. the fact that it is getting poor gas mileage leads me away from the cat but replacing it will help, no matter what.

My grandpa mentioned that this could be the case, as well. How about the EGR valve? Mixture control? Another sensor? These freakin' computer-controlled engines... J/K

the egr can cause the high nox readingsthe leaking injectors may cause it to run extremely rich all of the time. the bad fuel mileage sugests gas leak to me.oh, and you should see my dad's 99 bmw 323i for a computer controled engine, lol. but i know what you mean.listen for the injectors clicking quietly to see if they are opening and closing and most importantly, check the ecu for codes.
