You're blaming Ford when you should be hating the lawyers. They are the ones that convinced Ford that evil was about. Who else would believe that a calendar posed a threat to a giant billion dollar corporation. Fire the lawyers and pass the savings on to the consumers.

Oh, I'm with you on the lawyer thing! But I don't see other car manufacturers "listening" to their lawyers about car calenders!

You've got to be kidding?!?! Is this just hype to sell more ***tang calendars?? Could F**D be so stupid??? (OK, I know the answer.)

I didn't have time to read it all. Will have to at home.

Thanks for pointing this out! Looks like good drama.

That F--k up big time.

Mr President has to say something to Ford.

All they should do is give the calendars away for free and charge for shipping and handling more. They get the money and Ford guys can't do nothing.

Lawyers are on FORDS budget, not the other way around. I can't see a high end firm keeping a straight face while typing that cease and desist. I'm sure they told the janitor to write that letter.

I know this might be a little paranoid, but do you have to list our full names? Maybe just our first name?

I would think that you could put in an 'another' name in your profile. You know that anybody can click abdoman and get your name from any of your posts.

I see that, but it does say that your full name is required. I believe that requiring a full name and listing it without some privacy settings could become a problem.

OK, I am a little paranoid.

Sounds like one of the MOD's may need to clarify whether or not you HAVE to list your REAL name. I understand your concern with people stealing identities, but I don't think a full name by itself is a risk. This is something that can be obtained fairly easily. What would be a risk is your full name with your social or banking information.

Perhaps a MOD will chime in.

I had considered changing my full name before as well. That's assuming that I DID list my real full name to begin with....

Here is something my friend said he found out:

"I found out what the deal was with this, it was because they called the calendar Black Mustang Club Calendar. The use of the word Mustang was the issue because it is a licensed trademark by Ford, therefore anyone using it to sell their product needs to pay Ford a license fee. Had they called in the BMC Calendar they wouldn't have had a problem."

LOL... yeah I'm a lil confused... looks like the threads were merged..

I know General Chat can be a mess.

As far as your real name... just like any site you join... it requires you to make a "REAL" account, not just John Doe.
abdoman wrote:OK, I am a little paranoid.
Yes I think you are...

BUT, if this makes anyone feel uncomfortable... let me know and I will bring it up to the powers that be.

Big deal if your name is posted. It's not as if we ask your social security number or credit card info... My full name is posted in my profile on at least 10 different forums. Who cares? You can't steal someone's identity with just a name. You know that when you buy a house, that your address and name, as well as the price you paid for the house is public record held at the county government office? That is public record, which anyone can get access to. That is much better info to try to steal someone's identity with...

And now there are TAX Grid available on the internet that shows you all of that info. for many counties.

Identity thief is a big deal. Recently we inventoried all of the software applications that stored PII - personally identifiable information. And, by our definition it was more than first/last name. It also had to include social or banking info. We also have to ensure more security is in place when transmitting such information to vendors/other companies/banks.
