"Hey Siri" functionality

I've got an iPhone 6S running iOS 11.2. Ever since I upgraded to iOS11 Siri hasn't quite been the same. Before, if I used to use the "Hey Siri" command, she would mute the stereo and asked me what I wanted. Now for some reason she doesn't mute the stereo any more, so now when I say "hey Siri" all she does is try to recite whatever song is playing. It's actually pretty entertaining but definitely useless. For now I've just been pressing the home button to activate Siri but I would like to do it hands free. I realize I can use the steering wheel controls but that doesn't link to Siri, just the Nissan phone features, which suck.

Has anyone experienced this or do they have a workaround to mute the stereo when activating the "Hey Siri" function? I've checked the Apple forums as well, un-paired, re-paired, rebooted (both the phone and the stereo) to no avail.

On my 2017, it's configurable. Mine is set to a long press on the steering wheel button activates Siri. Siri knows it's in a car mode, and doesn't do everything, but most stuff. Still way better than the built in voice controls.

Mostly, i just use it to make phone calls though. If I need to ask a question, I'll hit the home button and then use Google Assistant on the iPhone.

Unfortunately on the 2016 SV a long press doesn't activate Siri, just the Nissan voice control system so it takes about 3 button presses to make a phone call. Hopefully it's an iOS thing and it will be fixed in future updates.
