I finally purchased the double-din 6-Disc CD changer from a recent QX4 and installed it in my '91. It's wonderful listening to the new Bose unit and it adds a totally new look to the old[er] interior.

Woot, yes pics are a must?

Also, details, did you use the same adapter?

What about sound, Jesda had bad luck, but I think some of the earlier Q's used different amps??

And if you don't mind, price?

I don't know how to load the picture onto this website. Could I email you the photo instead, and have you do me the favor of posting it?

Per you inquiry, I used the same adapter that is also compatible with other single-disc double-din HU. It worked out well.

I didn't have any issues with integrating the differences in amp specification. The sound is excellent with no noticable audible distortion!!!

I'll email you the rest of the info at a later time...

what is the black trim piece around the edge of the head unit? is it needed because otherwise you would have gaps around the edges?

Otherwise looks damn nice and I was talking with Wes about 3 weeks ago about installing the same type of unit.

Rob that is the stock dash... You just see the black part of the dash because the wood doesnt go all the way around.

Yes, it does look damn nice, and if you see, he's got the same little "ledge" I do with my single CD player. The main difference is his looks to be centered better than mine. I should be able to slightly adjust how mine sits in there, just haven't yet .

That looks pretty darn good. So how much was the head unit? How hard was the install? Was it plug & play or did you need an adapter? Does it play CD-Rs & CD-RWs? I'd consider that if the price is right.

Well, my findings:

- Single In-Dash $100 to $150, just gotta watch ebay, the 6 disc I missed one at $165, but most I've seen are north of $200, don't know what SFBay paid for his.

- Physical install, no problem, just watch out for the bracket srews on the side, they've more than likely been there for 12 years.

- Dash removal steps can be found here, pretty easy

- Adapter is required and available from Nissan (part number 24028-3B300), thanks Jesda.

- Mine plays burned cda file CD's (not sure about MP3's, wouldn't think so), but I'm not sure on which CD's exactly.

Hope that answers most of your questions.

Like Rex said, the nightmare was the bracket screws that have been baked in to the head units...it took quite a bit of effort to remove the screws and in the process it broke the tip off of one of my most trusted phillips screw driver.

HU plays all original and burned CDs. I don't know if it plays MP3's since I don't have any to try.

Rex is correct...a special adapter is necessary. Rex is also correct on the other point that I paid north of $200. That's amazing that you've ran across one @ $165...that's unheard of. These 6-Disc units are still in high demand, so I've ran across many in the $300s, $400s, and even $500s. Luckily, I didn't have to pay any of those high prices.

When I gave my CD HU to a friend, they took it to a car audio shop that used some tools to force the screws out. Probably wont cost more than $10 in labor.

Random tip ...

When dealing with "seated and hard to remove screws" try tightening them to break the bond they have created, without damaging the surface area of the screw head that you need to exhert force against. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but I didn't have a problem with my screws .
