As for the transmission, the CVT gets better gas mileage than the automatic and is really smooth. The manual transmission is getting better mileage than either of the other two in real life.

You didn't say "S" or "SL". If you're looking for comfort, the SL seats are hard to beat. I drove my SL from California to Florida and back and the seats were comfortable the entire trip.

I bought an S with auto so my daughter would have an easier time driving the car with all the traffic in Houston. I would have preferred the 6 speed as I actually thought that was fairly peppy. From a price point, the S was the only option as the SL approaches Honda Civic territory which I would have bought it I was willing to spend another couple thousand. Too me, strictly a price point issue. Plus the car is going off to a College campus in a year which is brutal on cars. Fred

I went with the SL for a few reasons:

1. I wanted the CVT.2. I wanted power windows, locks, keyless entry and cruise control. (I take a lot of road trips, so cruise is a must.)3. The convenience package is really cool (steering wheel bluetooth/stereo controls, and never pulling out your keys.)4. The 6 disk MP3 CD player is convenient.5. I prefer rims to hubcaps.

The SL was the most reasonable method to get all of the features I wanted.

Still figure out exactly what you want in the car, determine the cost in packages to get what you're looking for, figure out the invoice cost for the car the way you want it (KBB.com can help with this) and make sure that the dealer gives you exactly what you want. Check all of the features before you sign for the car.

I hope you purchase experience goes well.

I went in wanting to buy the least expensive thing they had, preferably with a manual transmission. They only had an SL/CVT for me to test drive, and I couldn't believe how smooth it was. Plus, the EPA mileage estimate at the time was higher for the CVT than the 6-speed, so that got my interest, too.

A week later they had an S on the lot, and when I sat down I couldn't believe how cheap it felt compared to the SL, besides having so many fewer features. The only feature I was adamant about getting was cruise, but that was a biggie. Anyway, they ordered in a white SL/CVT for me, and I love it. Maybe I'd have gotten better mileage with the stick, having driven sticks all my life, but I've managed to get decent mileage with the CVT, and it's certainly nicer in stop-and-go traffic!

My dealership techs told me they see a lower failure rate with CVT than conventional automatics - that's across the board inc Murano etc. Having said that some auto journalists I've read prefer the Versa 4AT to CVT - claiming its more responsive.

I've noiticed my a/c compressor is particularly buzzy (strangely) in the winter months when in defog mode. I do not know if this is CVT load related. My V (with CVT) does not make this noise in the summer when pumping cool air.

If you decide on a V ( have you looked at latest Vibe/Matrix and Fit redesign?) When you take delivery examine the car first before signing the ppwk and check it's optioned the way you want it.

Bingo. My experience exactly. I just wanted a manual with the basics. Then I sat in an SL. Sealed the deal right there. Test drive. Indeed. "Ill take 'er."

The fabric and upholstery in the SL is far better as well. Console, lights, lots of little stuff that is a bargain when put all together.
