Hey everybody,I just got my first car it's a 1989 Nissan 300zx. Got it for 2K. I just want to learn as much I can about this car. Like the first thing would be what would be a good exhaust and intake for this. Here's a couple of pictures, tell me what you think.

I'm sure AZ Zbom will have more to add but, a cone air filter prettyuch just bolts on and when I had an n/a Z31 I ran a dynomax cat back, wasn't too expensive, good quality sounded good and looked nice

I got my dynomax system from Strano Parts, you might also try calling some of our sponsors, when ordering an exhaust kit like any other part they just need to know the year, make and model of your car

Certified Muffler exhausts are probably the best. You can get them @ http://www.cmperformanceexhaust.com , for N/A I suggest 2.5" Turbo > 3"

Cool. So you're saying he should sacrifice the best quality exhuast for the Z31 because the manufacturer isnt one of your sponsers?

no, I've got no basis for judging what and hwo makes the "best" exhaust for the Z31, if you have some test data to share please do

Strano is not a sponsor just a former scca national champ in a z who happens to have a shop and be very helpful professional retailers

Jegs and Summit also sell lots of stuff not listed in their catalog, I benefit none no matter what he buys or from where, do you have some vested interest int the particular brand you feel so strongly about?

Thanks for the help guys. I was talking to my buddy and he said there's not much parts for this car, is that true?

there isn't a lot of aftermarket for the Z31 but there isn't a lot you need taht you can't get, as for power add ons will only add small amouts of power, the most I've heard of a stock engineed Z31 making was 160 whp, the turbo swap can be very cheap and yields a bigger increase and is more receptive to mods, with incredible potential, many are making 450+ whp on stock motors

Well all I would want to do to the car is lower it, some kind of cat back exhaust, different intake, and maybe turbo it. But to turbo it I would have to do the engine swap, right?

No, You would need the the turbo front cross member, the turbo exhaust manifold, Turbo ECU, turbo injectors, and some other stuff too.

You need the front cross member because the engine mount is reversed for the NA vs. the turbo. They moved it out of the way for the turbo model. If you dont feel like removing the cross member and installing a new one, I make a turbo manifold that relocates the turbo to where the AC compressor sits. This eliminates the need for the turbo cross member.

Check out redz31.com there is a list of EVERYTHING you need to convert it to turbo. If you just buy the turbo engine and drop it in, you would still need the turbo cross member.

There is a HUGE online community dedicated to the z31. Z31performance.com 88hybrid.com and z31.com. If you go to these site's be sure to use the search function A LOT before asking any questions you will get flamed for.

This is what a relocated turbo looks like with my manifold.

Your account should now be activated.

And none of the sites I know of have a ton of pictures. It is only a bent piece of tubing after all.

This is the installation of my 3" exhaust:http://www.netsnapshot.com/b?KEY=67&ACCOUNT=1977
