Well, I must say now I know where my 2200rrlbs for my 240 comes from.. I was trying to reduce weight in the trunk by removing my spare when I discovered, low and behold, a small f***in' island is residing under the tire.. There was dirt and grime and a huge puddle and little people swimming and I just grabbed my goggles and said WHOOPIE!! Can anyone please give me a detailed run through on how to prevent water entering the trunk.. Or give me a good link for cheap diving boards.

mine was getting water in the hatch too, it took me a few days to figure out exactly where it was coming from. it was getting in thru the welds/seams under the weatherstripping, if you look near the corners of the hatch youll see what im talking about. i just sealed them with silicone, prob fixed. me=1 car=o

i had the same problem. I kept on getting this moldy smell even after sleaning the interior many times, well i open up the spare tire compatment and see at least a gallon of water with mold and ****. So i empty it out and sprayed all the mold with a mold killer and i check back in the spare tire after 2 weeks and theres water in there again.

So I finally found out the lil rust spots under my spoiler were not just lil. they were holes the size of baseballs on both sides.

So i cleaned that up the best i could, and put the spoiler back on and put a bead of silicone around the spoiler, its been fine ever since. What happen was the spoiler wasnt making a seal with the car and letting water in and making the rust holes and making my car stink.

So check for rust spots/holes under your spoiler, its just 4 screws to take the spoiler off.

I don't have a spoiler or predrilled holes in the hatch.. I was on the original 240sx.org forum andThere was an in depth process posted of removing tail lights and reapplying a butyl rubber strip around the tail lights .. Can anyone give me a good guide to annihilating water leaks in trunk. Thanks

Ahh yes.. Apparently leftovercrizack is good for the brain!!! True, when I worked at nissan we had the waterdoctors come in to fix leaks in all areas of the cars.. Their method was the hose except it is easier to check for the leaks when sitting in the car and having the whose run on the outside.. I can't lay in my trunk and see where it enters I can only look for a trail or something.. When I search I usually suspect more than one area because some will have little drops and others a little more.I think it is the taillight gasket .. Any takers on the procedure?? ANY TAKERS FOR SOME FREE CRACK!!!! ..............Oh now ye all come runnith..

thats how i found my leak, i thought it was the taillight but it wasnt. check those little seams by your weather stripping. i just poured a pitcher of water on my hatch and saw where it was leaking in.

Yeah it was the tail light gasket for me too, previous owner just pulled the plugs in the spare tire area to let the water drain... lazy bastard lol! Was really easy to fix, you'll love the irony of this one. The day I decided to fix it outside, out of nowhere a flash rain storm starts coming down on me, hard, just as I had removed the right and center pieces. Perfect timing right... lol Whatever, it didn't stop me and now I've got a nicely sealed trunk. :thumbupChances are it's the gastket for you too, but leftovercrizack has a good point about spraying your car down. I knew the leak was the gasket, but if you're unsure then get it wet.

Hey axel when you poured the pitcher did you keep your hatch open and pour water along the lining just aside the quarter panels or did you do it trunk closed.. Now, if it is the taillights what kind of silicone should I get and how should I apply it >> just spread around the perimeter of the taillight or do I use something to rub around it.. Hehe.. Please let me know quick, I believe the rain will end here soon and I can test.
