Hey whats up guys my names Jacob I recently took major interest in this car i love it, and how much it looks exactly like a GTR.. I dont own a AC yet, i have a Toyota 4Runner 1999 i love it and its fun to do but graduation is coming and a graduation present is on the way hopefully...! but i plan on getting the 2.5S with the Red or the Slate Gray i think it is... in reality ill take any color. I do have a question though.. Should i go with the Manual Transmission or the CVT?

Welcome!! I think you should probably test drive both and make a decision based on your experience. I prefer the CVT just because I didn't want to deal with a manual in traffic. It's still fun to drive and functions well. Welcome again and have fun choosing a new car!!

Get the manual. the fact that you have put this into consideration tells me that you really want the manual, but you are worried about day to day practicality and if you are going to regret owning a six speed. well let me put it this way.. the CVT is a good transmission, damn good actually best CVT ive ever driven, even has a little manumatic feature, but ultimately its complete rubbish when compared to a real six speed, and the six speed has a light clutch and smooth shifting transmission, its very easy to live with and it will last longer.. i know in my heart the CVT is going to blow up in my car as soon as the warrenty is up, so save yourself the trouble and buy the manual.

Thanks everyone ha, but wow Scandinavian Flick you just read me like a book, but i also took into consideration of what AltimaJoe said about based on Eperience, the thing is i have never drove a Manual Before except for on my Fourwheeler... lol so if its like a quad it should be simple... let off the gas push the clutch in and shift then let off the clutch and hit the gas??

In the simplest of concepts, yes its like a quad.. but what i would do is find a friend wiht a M/T and ask to borrow it, and get the feel of driving a manual on someone elses car as to not hurt the clutch in your own car.

Welcome, MT FTW

This was my first manual also, and it was very easy to pickup in this car.

I wanted to get a manual because well automatics are plain boring but... these automatics do have SportShift i always wanted to try it! and good to know that you also learned it as your first... haha and Scandinavian Flick yea i actually asked and they were like i would show you but this is my only car haha and i mean my sister learned from her boyfreind so i think if she learned on his Civic SI i think i can learn haha! But does anyone have any input of why a Manual would be better? I dont care about gas mileage im pretty sure its all better than my 4Runners gas mileage i dont think the highway is even 20...

MT is definitely more fun to drive. My cars up until the Alty were all MT and driving them was a blast! Even the slow ones! I was just tired of it after almost 10 years of nothing but MT. Sometimes I still wish I had a manual. The "manual mode" on the CVT is nothing at all like driving a true manual. And with the newer transmissions and clutches I'm assuming it would be easier to learn than with an older car. I learned how to drive stick on a 1990 Colt and it wasn't bad, 18 years later and it must be downright easy to drive stick! Just don't be too embarassed if you accidentally kill it a couple of times when you're first getting the hang of it!

Haha thanks altimajoe very true how does the CVT work with the manual mode? Do you press a button so the CVT doesnt shift for you or...is the computer like ok he used the manual mode so.( it gives you like 5 seconds to shift or it shifts for you??) anywho you girls do love stick haha... and would you conisder this car somewhat fast the 2.5... and when i mean fast im not talking like Z06 Fast or anything like that but if you get on the throttle will it go or is it going to be like driving a... ford escort??

cvt manual is just like any of those auto-manual transmission things...

i have a 2.5 with intake and exhaust, and its a beast, and my wallet is thicker from the gas $!

Well i know you press it up and down but how does it work do you have to press a button or anything to switch it into that mode or you just push up and push down when you feel like it? and dude haha im totally looking forward to better gas mileage i fill up like every thursday with a 18 gallon tank driving about... 16 miles every other day and occasionall like 20 mile drives and it just kills my tank and i fill up its annoying but yea... and i thought you had a 3.5 well this makes everything better haha! did you notice any performance gains from the Exhaust and Intake??

kuhan brought up a good point, girls like guys who can drive a manual, i dont know what other reason a person needs, also the "manumatic/autostick/pretend manual" isnt nearly as much fun as the real manual, and to engage the "manual mode" you just slide the gear selector over into a side slot and push up to upshift down to downshift.

dude... i dont want to see another person get a cvt, just get the manual. i promise no disappointments. Even if you are not use to driving a manual, you will get used to it, and you will love it, also it makes better use of the 2.5's power

im no pro, ill say i notice a difference but truth is i dont really know, im not "tuned" in enough to realize.. the sound/look is a lot different thats for sure... these have 20 gallon tanks its insane... the gas goes in one end and flys out the other....

No buttons, the shift is on the right when its auto, push it to the left to go into manual, then a flick up or down switches the gears, ofcourse it wont let you grind the engine.

I would seriously drive a manual car around for a bit before i bought one, although i think its "fun" i dont want to do it all the time, and when you drive a lot or have traffic, its not fun some times....

The car definitely "feels" more peppy with the exhaust and intake. Can't really give you numbers. It may just be I hit the gas harder to make more noise now. I can't be sure. As far as the manual mode you just slide the shifter to the left and press up to upshift and down to downshift. I usually only use it to downshift when I'm coasting downhill or coming up to a stop light. Other than that I let the CVT do what it does.

I will say this, if you only drive 16-20 miles a day and there's no traffic I'd go manual. If your 16-20 miles is stop-and-go traffic I'd go CVT. MT in traffic sucks.

na... i have no traffic in that range but when i graduate highschool ill be going to college hopefully... well i think i might be going to a community anyways... yea traffic is not a factor and ok i understand it now it auto switches when you move it into that spot on the shifter that sounds good now. But i really only plan on doing intake and maybe an ehaust the rest is Interior... and rims ha if i do any of it lol... but alright thanks for the input another car i do like though is the Sentra SE-R Spec V although the body is ugly! but i am in love with the Interior is there anyway i can get anything like that with the Altima or is buying a Box Seat the only way to go and helllll nooo... to seat covers i think thats very tacky sorry to anyone that has them

I sat in an SE-R Spec V... I honestly think the leather buckets in the Alty are better... except for the infamous "right buttcheek print". It may also be that I didn't really fit in the Sentra... I'm a bit too tall for that little a$$ car!

in my opinion , the altimas interior is one of the best interiors in nissans whole line up, ( next to the 09 maxima, thats just sexy) so id leave that sentra alone, and just order the leather in the altima,
