hey im jus lookin for some information

hey, well lets say im new to cars, i was born in the net gen.so im jus lookin for info on my 95' 240sx.i want to look into new engines, my KA engine and whatever else i can.my fathers an machanic but lives too far to learn anything from.so could someone please point me in the right dircaton for some info, or supply some yourself.i need a new engine that will pass smog...and i was looking inot the SR20's but i was told they wont pass smog in cali....anyhelp?
