Hey i am new just got a sentra

i am about to get my 99 sentra this weekend, i dont know what sub make is but i will find out when i get it, i am guessing gxe. but who knows for sure. well i waswondering, i got a auto tech class that lets me bring my car in and work on it but i have to have it out by the time my class is over. i was wondering, should i get a swap for a sr20, or should i just stick withthe ga16de and just upgrade that motor? i want a 5 speed but its a auto the one i got. so anyo of this work going to take longer than 6 hours of full on working on it? just give me some :help or tips.

P.S. i am acanyon driver, so i am gonna work hard on the suspension and brakes and tires, but i want the right engine for it, whichi should i go for. that should give u an idea what i want so u can help me more with detail. oh and if any of u are inthe bay area then please give me some good canyons to goto because i am new, hjust caem from so cal and originally from hawaii. thanks in advance

Well, first of all, welcome to NICO.

2nd of all, being a "canyon driver" is dangerous

3rd of all, an SR swap *or* a 5spd swap will take much much more than 6 hours to do.

I would just eitherA) build up the GA16. Get headers, intake, exhaust, etcorB) save up for an SR20DET swap. It's a waste to drop in an SR20DE instead of the SR20DET

dude i think i got a gxe, because its a automatic, and my step dad told his cousin for a RELIABLE car. so gxe here it comes

XE, GXE, GLE, and SE all come in 4 door models.

The SE is the SR20DE, and the others are all the GA16DE. SE's were available only in 98-99. What year is yours?

the factory color that the car is in is black. does the gxe come with black or is that just the SE?

They all came in black. Look under the hood and see what engine is in it! If you don't know what the GA vs. SR look like, look for the VIN plate on the firewall. See how big the engine is.

Or better yet...look at your wheels. SE's have 15" wheels. All others have 14" or 13".

i know what the sr looks like, i dont know what the ga looks like, so if it doesnt look like a sr then i know what i got.

was supposed to have a chance to come 2 days ago....then yesterday should of been here for sure....today no call from it....so hoping superboal sunday or monday should be here, how long it takes to ship from los angeles to bay area?

I would be hoping for an SE if I were you. Mine's a little newer but I would figure they'd be about the same. It pulls like a mother (for a 4cyl) and handles great (for an FF economy car). It's a ton of fun to drive, even auto would be survivable, I'd think. If you have an SE then don't worry much about engine, other than I/H/E and start working on suspension. That is, until you get bored with a 140-145ish whp car. I wish I had another 800$ or so for coilovers... oh well... Anyway, congrats on the car! If it's a GA16 then I'd try to find a VE or, even better, a DET, but I'd be willing to bet that a good ol' SR20DE would be really cheap (if price is more of a concern). Happy driving!

ok i got my news on my car that hasnt shown up yet. its a black 99 nissan sentra GXE with 64,297 miles. and i got it for 5gs

ok i just got my car, its pretty nice and clean, its a gxe limited edition, wiht like alloy wheels, cd player all that ****, aceleration is pretty good,i will post up pics when i get home tomorrow.
