O-H..!!
I drive an S14, but I think i can help you a bit.
Pros: small, light, very maneuverable, parts are readily available, huge aftermarket support, you can put all sorts of different engines into it, from other 4 cylinder nissan motors, to skyline I-6's and LS series GM v8's. You can do other motors but those are the most common and best supported ones. While it is underpowered in stock form, BrianHart will tell you that you don't need a turbo to make the car fast.
Cons: underpowered in stock form, it's a 16+ second car in stock form. It is a light rear wheel drive sporty car, hence almost useless in snow (yes people drive it in snow, but it's just far more work than other cars), getting a lot of power and style out of the car takes some serious cash. Eats rear tires if you drive it hard. S13's rattle a lot, especially once you stiffen the suspension. Drift tax. Although here in Ohio you won't be hit as hard as the cali boys, people sell these cars and parts for them for far more money than you would pay to upgrade the same part on an American car or even a Honda.
