Hey guys. I'm extatic that I found this forum!!!

My name is Justin. I own a small import buisness/workshop in Tasmania. My personal/promo car in an R32GTR. To date I have posted 10.6@138mph in totaly street leagal trim and weight, with small low mount turbo's and a 15yo STOCK bottom end.

Long story short, the poor old girl died... and I'm looking to do somthing a little different.

My reaserch to date has drawn me the the VH45DE as a base engine to work with. It will weigh roughly the same as a 3lt RB with turbo's etc. However will sit further back and lower in the engine bay, so much better weight distrobution. Not to mention the extra capacity will result in much more immediate torque, better boost response and more favorable hp to capacity ratio (hopfully last longer).

I'll be reading as much as I can from the forums here as well as much of my own reaserch as I can.

Any info you guys can post up in this thread would be fantastic e.g.

weightssizesbore/strokeaftermarket parts availability?

what u guys are putting them ing/box adapter plates (not just for z boxes)

opinions on hp limmitation?weakness's and strengths etc

My targets are 1000hp at the crank with as broad power band as possible. I'll be retaining 4WD, using a dogbox and tripple plate clutch and upgraded front/rear diffs/transfer case.

This will be a very long and involved build, as I'm going to the US/ Carribbean to work on a private cruise boat soon (bit sick of customers and cars atm) to have a little fun. But I have to do the reaserch!

Sorry about the long post...

Any and all assistance would be much appreciated. If anyone needs any skyline or RB engine advice let me know.

Howzit XRATED, I'm from NZ... and there are a few Aussies on here too, so some decent local support for you.

Everything you have asked for information about has already been discussed in the VH/VK forum, please take the time to have a good read through the threads, you'll find loads of valuable information that you'd never even have thought about asking for.

I would recommend using the VH41DE engine as a base and putting the 4.5 internals in, as an R32 Skyline will be an even tighter swap than the R31 transplant I've done (due to the dual wishbone front suspension design in the 32). They're just as strong, but the VH41DE is more readily available and is configured such that the engine peripherals will interfere less with other parts of the car, making the swap easier. Ensure the engine you get is from a LHD car too, else the starter will interfere with the steering rack.

as mettler said ... have a read and you'll find nearly everything you need to know

BTW VH45's are more available than VH41's in AUS and if you are going to run manual dog engagement gearset yada yada then the starter will most likely be on the gearbox?? If this is the case then VH45 RHS starter location wont be a problem for you

you may have to cut and invert some sections out of your rails to fit alternator and or power steering ... but this would be the LEAST of your worries in a conversion as complicated as yours

Good luck with it

Cheers for the replies guys... There is ALOT of information here.

Can anyone confirm that a Z32 flywheel will bolt up to a VH45 or VH41 crank?

After a little more reaserch, I'm tending to lean towards a VH41 block and heads with a VH45 crank and rods with custom short skirt pistons with flycut valve recess.

Any thoughts?

the Z32 flywheel definitely works, however if your gonna use a Z32 MT, definitely take the Q45 starter off and use the Z one.

Cheers..

I'll actually be using an R32GTR gearbox with a helical cut dog gear set. So I'll use a Z32 quad plate clutch (same spline).

IF I can get it to sit right, I'll leave the gearbox location as it, so I dont have to monkey around making all new drive shafts and x-members. As I'll be retaining the standard transfer case, front prop shaft, front diff and 4WD system.

ooooh I cant wait to start...
