Hey guys I'm new to this forum, been lurking for quite some time on your builds and what not. I currently own a C33 Nissan Laurel and swapped in a CA18 into it.

So I got a question for the guru's here.

Here is my problem:

I am having trouble getting spark from the 4th cylinder.

Things your should note:

I have a Power FC which I tried diagnosing by swapping in a stock WORKING ecu, no cure.

I have tried using a working coilpack from cylinder 1/2/3 on 4 with no results. I have also tried two spare coilpacks given to me with also no luck.

I was then lead to believe it was my ignitor which I then switched for ANOTHER ignitor. Surprisingly it gave me the SAME issue as the previous ignitor with no spark on cylinder 4.

So after trying those two common ones (according to you guys with the search there), I tried connecting a massive ground wire to the coilpacks with also the same result.

Anyone ever have an issue come up with something like this? I tried checking the wiring schematic on the FSM but it appears that the ignitor is not on it?

If you have any ideas your help is utterly appreciated.

Thanks guys,

Dan

You say trouble getting spark, so is it sometimes you get spark? No spark at all?

Because if the spark comes and goes its clearly soemthing like a loose connection.

If its the other, no spark on one coil, thats very odd. Good luck

i just fixed a no spark situation on mine yesterday on cylinder 4, i swapped the coil pack, had no affect, it turned out to be the igniter, it was not sending signal to cylinder 4 to fire.

I'm getting NO spark at all from cylinder 4. I'm starting to get lead to believe that I have been trying 2 ignitors with the same problem. Does anyone find this possible?

Anything is possible, check out import concern i know they have a ignitor listed for sale on his site. Or try calling a dealer, i know my dealer in Calgary can source JDM specific parts, i don't know if you have a dealer in Edmonton that can do it too.

Alright guys so I figured out what the problem was and I figured I would share it with all of you as this is what I would think would be a rare problem.

So here is what it all unfolded out to be:

As I said before I wasn't getting spark to 4 so I check the pin on the Ignitor plug to see if I am getting any voltage to fire the 4th cylinder... Well I got nothing.

I then made a jumper wire from the signal for cylinder 4 right from the ecu and still no luck. Now Im kind of baffled thinking what the f*** could be happening? Do both of my ECU's have no 4th signal?

I then took a look at the FSM and went to the pinout to see if I was checking the correct color wire (R/B) Yep.... err wait... its in the wrong pin.

So refer to the diagram here:

BLUE Was my 4th signal wire, which in turn went NO WHERE on the ecu, according to the pinout nothing exists on this pin

RED Was R/G colored which ment it was firing the 3rd cylinder on the 4ths signal (This is the proper 4th signal spot)

ORANGE Nothing existed here, this is the 3rd cylinder signal.

With a simple repin of the ecu to the proper colors, I then plugged everything back in, turned the key, and it ran as if it was brand new!

Phew! I'm going to bed!

Thanks for your help guys,

Dan
