This is my first post in the G35 section of Nico, but i post somewhat regularly in the 300zx Section as i have a 1990 Na 300zx 2+0.

Anyway, I've been somewhat offered a steadier and better paying job than i currently have which has also opened the doors to getting a faster/newer car. I love my Z, despite the breaking of 20 yr old parts, the lack of maintenance done by previous owners, and the incredibly cramped engine bay that is the z32. The only thing thats really bothered me to date is the lack of a back seat.

This is where the G comes in. I've been looking at G35 coupes for a while now and with this new job im thinking i can afford one. I'll have small car payments but i'll be able to make due. If anyone has experience with 300zx's and G's i'd really like to hear from you to compare the two. In terms of performance/ handling/ difficulty of working on the car etc.. It'll be nice to get a relatively new car and maintain it properly from the start instead of playing damage control.

Thanks to anybody who takes the time to read this and reply.

Welcome to the G side Blake.

I ALWAYS loved the 300 BTW!!

I can honestly say I don't know of anyone on this side that went from a 300 to G.

There was this thread

http://forums.g35club.org/zerothread?id=441498

If you want to double check there...maybe someone mentioned owning a 300 previously.

Hope that somewhat helps.

I never owned a Z32, though I still love them, but I have experience with them, as friends/family have owned them. The G is a serious family member of the Z that has been recreated nicely. Performance wise, its faster in every way, though the legendary 30DETT motor has tons of potential. You'll notice a higher seating position, it handles about the same as far as grip, a little better even, but actual steering characteristics the G is more linear, though less aggressive. The G is also safer, a little more comfortable overall (though the Z32 seats are some of the best seats in automotive history) and easier to work on, I've found. Less stuff under the hood, and more luxury, features and amenities. I would recommend you save up a little bit, about one year, and get a G37 coupe, 2009 model used, if used is what you're looking for.

I agree with Poyz...except for the G37. (unless you want a new car)

Get an 05-07 G35 coupe. Great engine and you'll have money left over for mods. If you want a rocket, do FI...twins will cost about 12k with tuning/exhaust.

Thanks a lot guys, i appreciate the welcome. I am buying used, im nowhere near the funds to afford a new car. 2003/2004 are what i was thinking but i guess 2005 is a possibility. I know there was a boost in hp between '04 and '05 correct? 280 up to 306? Other than the power gain was there any other improvements made? I'm not so much into luxury as i am into performance/looks so if there were only luxury changes i wouldn't mind having an '04.

04 had the 280hp 6600rpm enginethe 05 Manual had the 300hp 7000 rpm enginethe 05 auto stayed with the original. The 280hp takes FI a little better though.

Have been very happy with my 04 Coupe!!! Recently checked the valve covers when I changed the plugs and no oil in the plug chambers.

Oh alright. I think 306 was the 35th Ann. 350z. I knew there was some power change. As much as i'd like to turbo or supercharge it, that'll more than likely be out of the budget for a while. I'll most likely be going with boltons if i get the car. I'm still undecided as to whether or not the 20hp is worth the extra cost, or if i can even afford the extra cost. I'll be looking into it more and making money anyway i can until then. Thanks again for the help guys, its nice to see that every section of Nico is as nice/helpful as the Z32 guys

I had a 1983 Datsun 280ZX and I loved it. I had to sell it because the parts were so expensive to replace. If something broke I almost always had to take it to the Nissan dealership to get someone to work on it. If you can afford the G make the trade. You will not be disappointed!

The 300ZX was one of the finest sports cars of her time. Unfortunately, the spirit of the original 240Z was lost as Nissan jacked up the price year after year that by mid-90s, Z/Fairlady enthusiasts in the US just got tired of it. The regular Z was fast but I love the power and roar of the twin- turbo.

You cannot go wrong with the G. Both the Z and the G are sure-footed. Just make sure you have a Carfax report and maintenance history before you buy one.
