Just noticed that your sig now say Proud Parent of a Paratrooper with the Eighty Duce patch... When did this happen and what is their MOS and Unit? I was 1 jump away from being assign to the 82nd, but my ankles had other plans and I wound up going to the 101st via a tour in Korea. Congrats on your kid getting into such a prestigious unit with a butt load of history behind them. Any plans for Ranger school in their future or are they not combat arms? If he is combat arms and he is considering Ranger school have him look into Sapper school as well since it's now open to Infantry and Cav. Scouts now and not just the Combat Engineers. It's finally getting the respect due and is worth damn near the same amount of promotion points that Ranger school is. Airborne + Ranger tab + Sapper = super fast promotion to NCO status. If he stays 82nd and gets more jumps under his belt have him look try for Pathfinder school as well. Had I gotten through jump school without busting up my ankles I definitely would have tried for Pathfinder. I regret getting out, if I knew then what I know now I would have just reclassed from Combat Engineers to Cav Scouts and had stayed in, I'd have 14 years in right now. Make sure they stay in, it's a guaranteed job with no fear of layoffs, plus it looks really good on a resume and you can't beat retirement before 45 with a full pension and benefits, at that age you're still young enough to start another career with the possibility of a pension after another 20 years which would be 2 pensions before they're 65.

He's been in almost a year now... did his Basic at Benning, stayed for jump school, and he's up at Bragg now. Just got recommended for Ranger school, so he's back to Benning in November for that.

I'm proud of him - he's finally found his place in the world. :)

Congrats again. If he gets through Ranger school he'll be on the fast track to NCO status. Like I said have him look into Sapper School and later on Pathfinder school, if he can get all 3 completed he'll make it to Sargeant First Class in 5 years instead of 10.

Why do you say that, because I'm a fattie now, I was in from 1996 - 1999 so I've been out for 11 years now. I was a combat engineer and when I was in I was built like a brick s***. Went to Airbourne school but on my 3rd jump I damn near destroyed my ankle (Dr, in the ER said if I had done my 4th jump my entire calf muscle on my right leg would have exploded). Was stationed @ Camp Howze Korea for a year and then spent the rest of my enlistment at Ft. Campbell. Got my Air Assault badge, Unit Armorer certification, Combat Lifesaver and Combat Commo certificates. I was the Unit Armorer in Korea and my Platoon Leaders driver at Ft. Campbell. I was also assigned to Live Fire Base for Range Control my last year in. I only got out because at the time I just didn't want to do it anymore because I was getting the run around from my unit about sending me to PLDC to get my Sargeants stripes. I should have just reclassed to Cavalry Scouts and gotten reassigned to a new base, but hindsight is always 20-20.

man, this thread is bringing back some memories...

@Chaotic... bro, that sucks about your ankle. I did jump school right after my OSUT at Benning. I remember more than a few people blowing out ankles and knees, some just on the jump towers alone. Even if a person's PLF-technique is perfect, they can still get hurt. The landing is the equivalent to jumping out a second story window. Not fun.

@Hitman... congrats on your son going to Ranger School. I did it back in '03. It sucks he's going in November, though. Hopefully the weather will stay mild those two months.

Brandon, yes. You don't look like the military type. The majority of the guys I know that are ex military still keep up with their bodies and are pretty meticulous people that wouldn't drive two hours on blown struts.

For the 9 millionth time, I am dirt poor, have been laid off twice in the past year and have a $600 a month child support payment, I literally live hand to mouth. As far as me not keeping in shape, I don't exactly live in a neighborhood safe enough to just go run or exercise and my diet sucks because quality healthy food is actually pretty expensive. Why you consistently bust my stones is beyond me. It's not like I ran over your dog or treated you with disrespect, so why you insist on being like that towards me is beyond me.

But I digress, I'm not going to soil this thread about Greg's son by bickering with you, if you don't like me (for whatever reason) that's fine, you've made it known, now let it go. I'm not Charlieo or PMQ or any of the other a** clowns that will fight with you just so you all can get your rocks off. Have a nice day and leave me the hell alone.

Greg, what's your son's name? I wouldn't mind friending him on Facebook but that seems a bit weird, Hi I'm a member on your dad's car board, will you be my friend? Don't think he'll be too inclined to accept.

You mistook what I said for disrespect. That's not how I intended it and am sorry you're sensitive about it. I was surprised, that's all. Not busting your chops. Sheesh. I am not going to poo on your thread.

It's cool, internet fails at conveying meaning of what is said, For the record I don't have a problem with you, you were cool to hang out with @ Carlisle. But you do come across a little crass sometimes, as I'm sure I do. Not all prior service military are PT studs, in fact most of us tend to get out of shape over time because s*** happens and life isn't as structured outside of the military. I was good for the first couple of years, but like i said it's been 11 years since I got out and life hasn't exactly been to kind to me all those years.

You served. You were faithful in the execution of your duties. You displayed honor and loyalty.

That earns my respect all day long.

HIs name is Hunter, and he won't mind. He and Andy (repo man) have chatted via FB too.

Cool, thanks. I'm actually putting a ton of consideration of re-enlisting after all these years. With this job market the way it is the military is possibly the best opportunity around, even if they are severely under paid compared to civilian equivalents.
