Hey. Im new to the 240sx world. Here's my story.

My aunt is giving me her 1988 240sx fastback for free, 150,000 Kilometers on it.

I wanted to know what I should do to it.

I have very little knowledge about the car, so I'm trying to learn more.

Is the car RWD?

How much longer do you think it will last? (km or mile wise)

If I spend $10,000 on the car itself, what should I go for?

Complete makeover, bodykit, rims, paint, ect?

Or should I turbo her? If I get turbo, I want somewhere in the 450-600HP range.

Would I have to change my stock internals for turbo?

Thanks for your help.

Hey, i don't know to much about 240sx's but I don't think you are going to get 450-600 hp and a body kit and paint and wheels not to mention suspension. I don't think 450-600 whp would make for a very streetable car either and would take a good amount of money and tuning. I say search and see what kind of power other people are making and how much they spent for their mods.

From the sounds of it, it seems you're a relatively new driver...Do NOT try to turbo your car. Chances are, you would have no idea how to handle it. Get alot of experience just driving it stock first.

Yes, it's RWD.

Depending on how well it's been cared for, these engines can last considerably longer than what it's got right now.

With 10k, you can do a ton. Research.

And upgraded internals are a good idea past 13-15psi.

Good luck.

I tried searching...really didnt help me much..I'm not going to sift through 60 pages of posts to find one specific thing.

Guess I'll go with style and some simple bolt-ons.

........You should probably just go with the 'stang. Nissan's suck and you should sell it to someone else right away. Anyway, if you want all style and no speed, I heard those Civics are bling bling tight yo.

Get anything but the Nissan.

I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself going for 400+ hp. Take the car out and drive it around, you may not even like it (i don't see how, but to each his own). Get it checked out too, make sure you don't have to fix anything before you decide to add anything. Good Luck with it.

If you don't have the patience to search for answers, don't bother to post a question. Also, do you have any idea how many people come in here with that same question:

"I have a lot of money and want to buy something, what should I get?"

What do you want to do with the car? Drift, togue, just drive to work/school, autocross? Figure that out first and then go from there.

Nissan's have such great potential, wheather you go KA-T or SR or RB. You sound like a moron when you claim that if you can't get power out of it you'll buy a Mustang instead. You should, you'll get what you deserve.

nicksta,Welcome to the boards and welcome to Nissan ownership. "Please try the search button." is what you'll get whenever you ask questions on this board. The reason why is we get lots of posts that are about the same thing. I can tell you're new, so you probably don't know what to search for...therefore you get a bunch of stuff that doesn't even seem relevant.

Also, please don't flame other users. I must say that jeansguy's post pissed me off too :rolleyes but take the high road when dealing with posts that bug you.

There are guys on this board that have forgotten more than I know about cars, but here's my opinion on the matter.

The 240 is rwd...just like SeVa said. It's got great handling right out of the box and that's what drew many of us to it. That and the potential for some real power and you have yourself a bonafied sport's car.

$10K is a lot of money to have to spend on the car. If you keep that budget, you'll be able to do all sorts of stuff to it, but make sure you know what path you want to go down before you start. Research as much as you can. This board is a good place to start. Take time to read those old posts since they have good info. Start with the stickies in each section.

I say you get aquainted with the car as it is first. You might later decide that you want to drag race with the car. You might decided you want to drift with the car...or maybe you just want it reliable and stock.

Realize that 450-600hp is a LOT of power. Porsches and Ferrari's don't have that kind of power and no one ever complains about them being "slow". You won't need any where near that much power to enjoy the car. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree and you already know that you a track/ or drag only car. If so, I apologize.

Stick around the boards man. Hopefully you'll like it here.

10k... SR, fmic, injectors, s-afc, turbo upgrade. Tein coilovers. Then some nice 16" gun metal wheels. 16 by 8 in the front, 17 by 10 in the rear. Maybe a nice body kit and a good paint job and yo ushould be set.

Ive driven the car many many times before. Just recently has my aunt told me she would give it to me, so now I'm looking for some background info.

If I went with style (which i'm leaning towards), I'd get everything done in this order:

Remove every dent and scratch in car.

Buy the Erebuni Shogun Style 395 BodykitInstall kit.

Paint the entire car black.

Buy the 5Zigen Copse (silver) RimsBuy some new wheels

Replace old lights with clear new ones.

Get the HKS HiPer exhaust put on

Tint Windows

Buy springs and shocks, let the shocks settle for about a week

Get an alignment

Done :icesangel

My car is auto..I might go for the 5spd swap, depends on how much money I have left.

And L0st, I live in Canada :(

I can give you a quick rundown of what 10,000 will look like:

Remove dents and repaint car black -- $2000

Bodykit -- $1000

Paint and installation of kit -- $1500

5Zigen rims -- $1000

Tires -- $800

Springs, shocks, and alignment --$800

New Lighting -- $1000

Tint --$400

TOTAL: $8500

And then the rest for insurance...I'm out of money :(

edit: ill get in touch with you, james:)

couldnt u just put on the body kit before u paint it, thatd way ud save some $. and since u live in Canada are you using US currency??

im confused, do you mean wheels= tires??

$1000 for new lighting seems a bit overpirced for some light. what kind of shocks are u planning on getting, bc for that price it seems ur gonna get coilovers. And tint seems like theyre ripping you off.

idk about you and where you got thee prices but your getting ripped off. these prices seems rediculous to me. id shop around a lot more and then decide on what to buy if i were you.

Sup nicksta welcome to NICO Forums. Um this is just my opinon but 240s that are simply all show are scarce. Alot of guys cars look good but have some sort of performance. Me myself im a performance junkie, but thats what i like. If ur gonna go show cool thats ur thing, but i would do a lil more resrarch and what not, because you say these are the parts u want for ur car, but if youve seen some of the cars on these forums and other sites u might change ur mind. Oh and one more thing some of ur prices u have listed are a lil bit high, for example tint for $400 bucks ouch thats alot. But i hope u stick around man, and learn the potential of 240s

Yes, I said that above in my previous post. Thats what I'm going to do, I'm just giving a *rough* outline.

im confused, do you mean wheels= tires??

See above, thanks for the edit SmithSR :D

First, the lighting mods are: replacing the rear lights and the front lights with brand new clear ones (Clear Corners). That alone is going to cost me however much, plus shipping and installation.

Springs and shocks, $200 each, plus installation, and I'm getting the lifetime alignment from Goodyear, which costs $400.

I'm going to look around, thats granted. Maybe another 2 months before I buy the actual products. I'm just looking for some local stuff so that I can save money from shipping

Dont take this the wrong way, I'm just stating my opinion:

Why waste money on speed, when 3/4 of the cars out there are all about speed, and can all kick my ***? Even honda's will rape me on the street. Style and a bit of speed is what i'm about. Sure, I want to win some races, have bragging rights, ect. Maybe in the near future I'll add some power to the nissan. But for a 15 year old car...I dont know how much longer it will last, and if wasting all that money will just go to waste in 3-5 years.

And also, my premium would SKYrocket with all those engine mods.. I'd rather keep my insurance low, and have money to maintain my car and keep it in amazing condition.

What up Nicksta, those prices don't sound too outrageous to me, i'm also from Canada so i know how expensive everything is up here (car wise atleast). You have to take into account the 15% in taxes. You said you were going to save $1600 for insurance, i'm just curious how many months that would give you. Because in Toronto that would equate to about 3 months worth of insurance on a 91sx... goddamn privatized Ontario insurance! Anyhow, i'd spend the money on improving handling and speed. It's just my opinion but cars that are all look with no engine mods are extremely hurting, i'd give no respect to a car like that. Also Ford is the worst auto company, saying you'd sell your 240 for a Mustang is blasphemy.

Whats up Koolmoe.

Yeah, I hear you. I got an insurnace quote for 12 months for the 240sx, $5500!

Damn, maybe I should just rely on TTC

I guess you're right...but as I said before, if I'm going to go for speed, I wont mod the 240..maybe get a camaro or something, you know?

I just dont feel like pumping 300+ horses into an 89, when a stock cobra comes with 390..:rolleyes

Just my opinion.
