Hey Everyone!

I just picked up a 90 M30 with 107k on it. the car is in really Awesome shape with two flaws that I have found! The car has all the service records from 90-till it was trader in around a month ago.

(1) The Bose Radio is really Low? and it pops sometimes? It has the am/fm/cass, and a cd changer in the trunk the factory Mast has been replaced with a cheap non power one (putting a power one back on it soon)

(2) The Abs light is coming on everytime I drive! Its sometimes at start up others after I drive awhile, the front rotors will be replaced soon as when I had the tires rotated they over Tq the lug nuts and now my rotor's are warped and it shimmy when braking, but the light was there before that anyway.

I have owned a 87-88 Maxima Gxe, a 89 Z31 (300zx) NT which al have the same motor why does the M30 say use only best gas?

what other things should I have done soon and check on it>? Timing belt service was done at 87k by sticker underhood and a 102k miles service also. any thing else to get done soon?

Thanks

I'm not familear with the M30, but if it's like the Q, then you need to either have the speakers rebuilt by the factory, or you'll need to install an aftermarket system. Either route could cost about the same, though obviously you'll have greater flexibility with an aftermarket system. Opinions on the Bose system vary greatly from person to person. Do a search for "Bose speaker rebuilt" using the NICO search function, above right. Not sure what to say about the ABS light. You can probably have the dealer diagnose it for an hour of labor, but maybe someone else can shed some light on it. Hopefully it's not the actuator; that part alone can cost over $1k.If you can, find a copy of the factory service manual. The M30 is not a common car, so the manuals aren't exactly plentiful.Welcome!

a longshot, but some people were getting ABS lights and other weird electrical problems when their altenator was on its way out.

The ABS self-tests every time you drive the car. If the fuse controling it is blown or removed then the ECU senses the failed self-test and turns the light on. It's a fairly common problem for the ABS relay to stick shut, causing the actuator to run continuously causing the battery to run down. A quick fix would have been to remove the fuse.

I guess the first step is to check the fuse. Then check to see if the ABS system is working... that's actually kind of fun. Wait for a rainy day... find an empty parking lot... aim the car away from any light poles and curbs... floor and then slam on the brakes. If the car slides and the brake pedal doesn't pulse - the ABS is bad. You can also feel for the ABS self-test... it should feel like a clunk in the brake pedal during the first few seconds of driving after start-up. In most cases the clunk is more noticeable when you're backing up, especially on a hill where the back of the car is lower than the front.

Bose will rebuild the speaker amps for $75 each. That also includes new speaker cones... I'd say it's the best deal going if you don't want an aftermarket system. Let me know if you want the #.

Welcome to the club!

Heath

P.S. Are you Donald Hays from the first gen. Maxima group on yahoo? I think he lived in Louisiana, but I don't remember for sure...

Hey man, I think you posted in the I30/I35 section at Maxima.org. Sorry they deleted and locked your post so soon, I think with a listing that small and a car as rare as yours it could have been "tolerated" for a little while. Oh well, what do I know, I'm not the moderator.

Anyways, welcome to NICO!

I like the .org but the mods are a bit heavy handed there.
