Hey i just needed some help about my 01 infiniti i30 it has 140k miles in it, the check engine light is on and recently when my car is stuck in traffic then the temp goes almost to the middle and then it doesnot bother to shift to the 2nd gear and i have to drive at 20mph but when i drive in highway there is no problem at all, the car goes smooth (the temp of the car is like in the 2nd or the 3rd line) and i have a small radiator leak is that causing the problem or something else. so basically if i m stuck in the traffic for long it happens can u let me know what exactly is the issue

Thanks Naeem

take it to the nearest auto parts store that has free check engine light readings. they will give you a code that will narrow down what could possibly be wrong. the code will give you a definition of what is the issue...but you will have to narrow down what exactly is causing the problem. the internet is your friend...

I believe they are different sensors...maybe your vehicle was built late 2000, where nissan utilized the 2000 sensor

Please clarify as to what have you fixed in the car. You have 3 issues - leaking radiator, and fault codes for VSS and oxygen sensor.

Did you replace the VSS? How's the level and condition of the transmission fluid. Is there any record of transmission service? Is the CEL on again?

I suggest that you replace the VSS since you have a code for that earlier. Your transmission may get worse. It's not an expensive component (preferable OEM) and not difficult to replace (it's mounted on the upper RH side of the transmission housing and is accessible once the driver side wheel and wheel well cover (splash guard) are removed. Do a forum SEARCH if you want additional info on how to replace it.

Better do a pan drop, clean pan and magnets and check/replace the filter and install new gasket. You can buy Transmission Service Kit from IoS - infinitipartsUSA.com at 25% off MSRP. The bolts for the pan are one-time use but I and other forum members have recycled them w/o any problem. If you need to replace the filter, take note of the bolt position as they have differing lengths and one of them may be a nut (as in my 99 I30).

After the pan drop and ATF refill, have an ATF flush. At 140K miles, unless you have proof of previous ATF flush, most shops will refuse to do it due to liability issue. You may have to do 3-4 drain and refiill sequence to emulate a flush (ensure brake is engaged and run engine for @ 100 seconds while changing gears between drain and refill). You may need up to 15 quarts of Nissan Matic-D (OEM) but Dexron III and the newer Dexron VI should work

what he said. i would highly reccomend a transmission service on your baby. one thing you should also check into is doing a diagnosis on the transmission itself. i remember on my old VE maxima, there was a code sheet of how to enter diagnosis mode and see if it threw anything at you. now that i think about it, the VE was OBD1 and yours is OBDII . everything may just be connected to the OBDII port.someone who actually owns an I30 will probably confirm or deny this.

Transmission Diagnostic Trouble Code is included in OBD with a Sub-System 7 designation. Below is how OBD II problem is coded:

*Systems:B-Body; C-Chassis; P-Powertrain; U-Network (LAN)*Code Type: 0-Generic; 1-Mfg specific*Sub-Systems: 1-Fuel and Air Control; 2-Fuel but specific to injectors; 3-Ignition or Misfire; 4-Aux Emission System; 5-Speed and Idle Control; 6-Computer Output Circuit; 7-Transmission Control; 8-addition transmission codes; 9&0-SAE reserved*Last 2 Digits-Specific Fault Code

Examples of OBD2 codes:P1320 - means a problem with the POWERTRAIN (P), specific to manufacturer (1), IGNITION or MISFIRE (3), Failure in the Ignition Primary Circuit (20)P0720 - means a problem with the POWERTRAIN (P), generic fault code (0); TRANSMISSION-related issue (7); Vehicle Speed Sensor, VSS (20)

P1126, depending on the manufacturer and model year can mean problem with O2 sensor, Throttle Control Motor Relay or a stuck/leaky thermostat. For your car, most likely it's the thermostat that's stuck open, leaking or installed incorrectly.

Make sure you get the correct gasket with the thermostat and install them correctly.

You have to replace the thermostat. And if you haven;t replaced the VSS, you have to change it too. BTW, it's difficult to read your posting as there are no punctuations marks.

sorry for that, i read in some forums that they say its the vss, but once they replace the thermostat the car causes no problems so i better change that and try it out first. What do you think ?

I suggest you replace them both as you have a transmission and cooling system issues. These components are not expensive. You may lose your engine if you allow the overheating to continue. Right now, you are taking unnecessary risks. It's your car...your call.
