not really. The old saying is true you get what you pay for.

a used SR is a fine motor Ive put 30K on my motor without one single mechanical problem (knock on wood).

the saying "you get what you pay for" is most definitly true. i overpayed for my SR swap when it was done but the engine runs flaweless even at the level (400whp) im pushing it at. if your willing to spend the money, Tomei would probably be the best. Im gonna be getting a longblock soon but im rebuilding the internals using Eagle Rods and CP Pistons. Heads gonna be P&P, larger valves, Tomei or Apexi HG, new valve springs, solid lifters, and some HKS or Tomei Cams.

Get a used SR and rebuild it your self if you are that worried about it.

Bearings are not that expensive.. Just make sure you get a GOOD torque wrench (mid torque values).. not some harbor freight piece of chit. Oh and plasti gauge, angle gauge as well.

You will learn alot and it will be fun. I rebuilt mine twice and both times it wasnt hard.

Actually, I would go with a mic set accurate to .0001" versus plastigauge.

New bearings, main and rod, are not that expensive as mentioned. I got all of mine for under 200 bucks. As far the difficulty, the fsm lays everything out for you.
