What gears, when exactly, describe some situations...
Make sure your RPMs are high enough, I know this sounds like I am lecturing but hey I see a lot of ppl who are never formally taught or taught correctly. If you are new to manual 3500rpm is the threshold of a smooth shift for more Z owners. You shift sooner it will hesitate to recoupe from the large load you put on the engine from low RPMs and a high gear. Practice higher RPMs, see how that pans out.
MAFs can get dirty, too much air, EGR problems, there are plenty of those too
