It might be as simple as a corroded connector. Pull and clean the MAF and CAS connectors first - coat 'em with a little dielectric grease and and snap 'em back together and see if that helps. A bad MAF or its connector will cause bucking at low speeds.

Check out this article on cleaning the MAF:

http://www.q45.org/maf.html

If that doesn't fix it, I'd try

1. BG44K - put a can in a full tank and change the oil shortly afterwards.

2. Clean up the intake path either manually or with a BG or other intake cleaning process.

Have a Consult diagnosis to make sure KS are ok by now 12 years most have failed from heat.

Generally 96 was the worst accelerating engine in the 90-96 series due to lack of VVT and detuned emission timing [cams different from 90-95].

New sparkplugs, BG44k, extensive intake and MAF cleaning, transmission ?

KS is Knock Sensor. You can't get at 'em, though, without pulling the plenum off - big job. You easily ohm them according to instructions here:

http://www.q45.org/ohminjectors.html

As far as the transmission, most recommend dropping the transmission pan and cleaning it out - be sure to get the entire kit - gasket and one-use bolts. Then do a good flush with either a BG or Sun machine. If your fluid has been abused, you'll want to get the chemical flush.

Congrats on the car, BTW. The Q45a is a special model! If you need any advice on the ACTSUS, get ahold of Keith:

Read up on Q45tech's posts on what constitutes a true and proper mechanical ATF exchange.

Add an auxiliary ATF cooler while you are at it. Migh consider changing external ATF filter also.

I had a customer's car with somewhat similar intermittent misfire-that would be real bad when 'active' then behave real good for a while (days),then...

Since I cleaned and used Stabilant 22 on ALL the engine connections, runs great--3 weeks and going.
