hesitation in acceleration - i30 2001

I have following 2 issues with the car (may be related)1) When cold start, it does not move for 5 sec even if i press the accelerator and then move with hesitating for 5-10 sec and then go in full blow. So now i wait for 1 min so that it warm ups before accelerating. Is this normal or something is wrong in the car?2) When in heavy traffic and driving for 5-6 miles at less than 20mps, when suddenly wants to accelerate i hear loud noise from front, looks like car trying to run without changing to high gears.What can be the possible issue or this is normal?

rubs, I will give this a couple days to see if anyone has any ideas. After that I will move this thread to the Inifiniti Online Mechanic forum.

1) Not normal.2) If you're consistantly at the same speed, I don't think the transmission would be searching for the right gear to be in.

Have you checked for codes?

Can codes we checked without the check engine light on. Is the instrument that autozone have to read the code will be suffice.
