ok so i pulled both of my wheels off to check and play in the rear. i noticed that the driver side rear axle has a lil bit of play(yes this is the side my bearing blew out of) this is not normal right? so what does that mean if it has a little bit of play(its side to side not up and down play)

An axle is a rotating assembly with a CV joint. There's no way it has side to side play but not up and down. That's not going to be causing a grinding sound either. I think you got your wheel bearing messed up somewhere while you were repacking it. Either that or it's the diff, like you said.

Jack up the car, and turn the rear wheels by hand. Listen. Pinpoint sound, troubleshoot further based on new knowledge.

Also, please start posting these threads in technical. I'm moving them now.

That still sounds like the wheel bearing to me.

How much would you say the axle is moving? 1mm? More? Less?

I think you got a bad bearing or it was pressed/installed wrong. A little horizontal play in the axle is normal. What you want to look out for is rotational play.

Then the axle is not your problem.
