so here's the deal. I bought an Alpine CDA-9813 which is the step down from the really good mp3 Alpine thats on the market right now. The problem is, everyonce in a while, it'll just turn off. Now, this might be a Darwin statement but in the instruction manuel, it says to take the Yellow 12 and hook it directly up to the battery. I didnt. I just took it to the factory 12 in it. The problem with me hooking it directly up to the 12, is that I have no clue where to take it through the firewall. I also have different wattage speakers in my fronts and rears. anything helps. much appreciated.

I just got that same head unit. It's one of the most powerful ones on the market pushing 60x4 or 27 x 4 rms, with a 105db cd signal to noise ratio(higher the better), and 9.3 fm sensitivity(lower the better). I hooked mine up the same way, without going to the battery, an install guy said just hook it to the yellow on the adapter. I also hooked the orange from the adapter to the orange with the tab on it, I don't know if it did anything but it all seems to work well. The rest of the wire from the alpine harness with the metal tabs on it are not hooked up, one is for power attenna which I don't have so that's fine, one is remo which I don't know what for, my remote for the HU works though, and one was pink for something I don't know.

Anyways to help you out, the easiest way is to get a adapter and about 12 cripping tabs, match up the colors from the alpine wiring harness to the car specific adapter.Or if you want to go through the firewall open the hood and look for the rubber plugs on the firewall, its much easier to find them on the engine side, pick one or two that looks like a good location. Pull them out and stick something bright or anything you'll be able to see through as much as you can. Some of them are covered by the carpet in the car others may have wires running in front of them, so you may have to cut the carpet, but don't accidentally cut wires.3rd choice drill your own and get a rubber plug from the local car store. Oh and don't attach it to the black side of the car battery, but red. Good Lucks, TT

Hmmmm, it could be anything. Even a manufacture defect in your deck. You might as well try running it to the battery to see if that solves your problem. That is after all what Alpine recommends. Your speaker wattage btw will not matter. Run it to the battery and let me know how it goes. TT

it is a common Alpine problem, i have a CDA 7844 for a few years now and the same thing will happen, especially when yhe volume is being adjusted, but it is not necessary to run the wire directly to the battery, if you buy the wire harness to fit the factory plug, there is a lead that already goes to the main fuse box under the hood. but it sounds kind of dumb, but if you take a pencil eraser and rub the contascts gently between the face plate and unit it has helped me out quite a bit. all in all most Alpines do this, but they are very good units and i have owned 3 of them and that is all i will wver buy again.

The pink wire is for cell phone mute if you have a handsfree car kit, I think it is pink with a black stripe. The yellow wire must be connected to the battery if you are using the internal power amp. Oh wait can you turn off the internal amp? I don't think the 9813 has that feature. Anyway if you use external amplifiers connected to your preamps, instead of the speaker outputs then the yellow wire will draw significantly less current and using factory wiring should not be a problem. Which car do you have? And is it manual or auto transmission.
