All of this talk goes on about 1st generation Q owners being dissatisfied with their headlamp situation (as am I). This part of the vehicle takes away and ages a car that was way ahead of its time and aside from PIAA, Silverstars, or costly HID from illusion lighting (that doesn't seem to exist anymore), I have not seen the most obvious suggestion that I have always considered possible.

HOW much work would it take to fit J-30 headlamps on a 90-93 Q? The dimensions seem similar at first glance, save for the fact the J's lamps are slighly less wide, which actually makes the fit plausible? IF anyone has thoughts on this, I would love to hear because I think those lights on a Q would look AMAZING!

ALSO, anyone here parting out a 94-96 Q? I am trying to get my hands on an ashtray and all four woodt trimmed door switches.

Thanks! Jamie

PS- How does one change "driving my mom's car" under user profile?

The 90 lights are amazing with brand new non road pitted lenses!

Well that would entail purchasing new lenses from Infiniti which is likely to cost about the same as finding J30 complete headlamp assembly from ebay or junkyard. I still think the shape and depth, color, clarity quality of the j30 would MAKE a 1st gen Q, and might actually offset the gaudy badge and no grill situation

Thoughts on whethere it would fit or if it can be done?

I'd compare my Q's lighting with Silverstars against any J on the road. $40 WELL SPENT.

The complexity of the mounting (don't forget you have the width issue) as well as the fact that they need to match the side markers (so you'd have to use the ones from the J), plus the modifications to not just the hood but both fenders AND the support metal behind the lights....

There's someone on Ebay selling a retrofit kit for the early Q's so you can run true HID headlights... I don't like the severe/sharp light cutoff inherent in the HID systems.

I was thinking that the corners from the Q could stay and since the outer edge of both the Q and J headlamp is straight (ie vertical) the only issue would be headlamp assembly depth and distance it would be short from the end of the opening where hood comes down (ie where grille would be on any other car)

Maybe I am crazy

The problem is the "degrees vertical" measurement will likely be different, not just front to back but also side to side. Both are critical to make a smooth look.

In other words, one set may "lay back" more than another, AND the "outer edge" may or may not be the same vertical angle.

Not crazy - Just creative!

I say go for it if it's what you want - I've seen things that make much less sense done successfully. :D

I like the stock 1st gen headlights.... can always tell when there's a Q driving near me since lights are so much better than most cars.

I think Xenons are annoying because they reduce long distance visibility. Sure, you can see every pebble in the asphalt in front of you.... but the high contrast between what's close and what's far means your eyes can't focus on what's ahead of you.

How many have bothered to remove the lights and clean the interior dirty film with alcohol.......slosh it around and pour out, air blow dry.

Thanks,
