ok guys(and gals) i recently got a Black g 35 sedan.. the paint is not so hot. it prob hasnt had a good waxing in a year or longer i would guess and lots of scratches and swirl marks. ... so my plan is to clay the car to remove all excess junk. then polish then wax with meguires new tech wax. so my question is what kind of polish should i use???? what is the best for my paint condition.... experiences?????. any input is much appreciated.

thanks mates

Brian

I used to have a 97 BLACK cobra. It had swirl marks up one side really bad. I tried several products including 3M's swirl remover, which did OK, but was a bear to take off! Finally, started using Zaino's suite of products. Their swirl remover did better than anything else I tried. Now, I only use Zaino on all of my cars. Goes on ez, comes of ez with no powdery residue. I can always post a pic of the black cobra if you want...

Are you referring to the 3M swirl remover? I couldn't find one by Zaino. Do you mind posting pics? Thanks...

The 3M swirl remover was very tuff to use. It did not do as well as the Zaino swirl remover (Z-5) Go to their website and look at Product Information. It is the Z-5http://www.zainostore.com/You will have to either order online or order thru a local distributor. They have everything you need. Clay, soap, detail spray, polish.

BTW, I do not use a wax. So, I would wash, clay, wash, polish

Oh, I used to use Meguiar's Gold Class. It did pretty good too, but it was harder to take off and left powder. My wife used to have a black BMW when we met and it look horrible. I put on three coats of Meguars - one on top of the other without taking off the first two and when I took it all off, the paint looked brand new!!!! That was back when I was using Meguiars.

The Gold Class is rated number 6 by Consumer Reports behindBlack Magic wet shine liquid wax is rated number 1I don't have any experience with Black Magic, but did like Gold Class.

Here's a pic of my old black cobra. Love black!!!

very nice cobra. my bro used to have a 94 5.0. with a saleen body kit. very good lookin cars.

Okay. so i ordered zaino z-5, which is a swirl removing polish. i will wash then clay then polish. my question is is it okay to wax on top of zainos ????? i got this supposedly really good wax called meguires tech wax. supposed to give higher shine then gold class and last longer. so is it okay to wax over zainos??? with this

Zaino is excellent. I used it for years. However, I have found another product which outperforms anything else I have used. It has been bumping Zaino out as the Corvette owners number 1 choice the past few years. Nothing seems to stick to it. It shines as good as Zaino. And it lasts much longer. But Zaino would be my second choice.

I wouldn't use anything other than Zymol. It's in a blue bottle, avail at AutoZone, and endorsed by all the german automakers. I have been using it for about 12 years. I would clay, then wax, then polish.

If it were me, I would not put another wax over the Zaino. I would put more coats of Zaino on it. Once you get rid of the swirls, you are supposed to add the Zaino Polist Z-2. I also recommend the Z-6 detail spray. I keep a cotton towel and the Z-6 in the trunk in case a bird dive bombs me. I also use it after taking the car cover off and dusting it. Or after I've dusted the pollen off it.

Maybe somebody else here has put a wax on top of Zaino.

Ok, so I did a lot of research on this specific topic.

This is what I would do. A few people might yell at me for this, but hear me out.

Get a mild dishwashing liquid (I like dawn). Wash your car with warm water.

Do a quick dry off to get most of the water off (doesn't have to be all of it).

Then clay bar it. You'll probably notice that the flat horizontal surfaces will require more time and effort than the vertical panels (doors).

Now polish it. If Zaino, works, great. I can't endorse any products because I've never polished my car, just did hours of research.

Then wax. Spray on waxes are a joke. I like meguires cleaner wax, but you might also try a paste since your paint will be completely clean of any previous wax.

The dish liquid is a one time only thing. It is good at removing wax and that's what you want to do when polishing/clay barring.

The clay bar and polish are abrasives. The polish removes swirls by cutting into your clear coat. The clay bar (when used properly) only cuts dirt, grime, tree sap...etc and not the clear coat.

If you really want an awesome protection/result. I would find a local detailer that is authorized to use Tropic Shield. Have them strip the wax, clay and polish, THEN apply the Tropic Shield. It has teflon in it and is supposed to make washing easier and reduce paint contamination (the reason you're clay barring it). The teflon supposedly reduces drag on the car too, but I'm skeptical on that one.

Sentientbydesign is right about the dish washing detergent!Forgot about that.If you are going to use all of the Zaino products (soap, polish, swirl remover etc...) you will want to wash your car with the dish washing soap first to remove the old wax as Sentientbydesign says. So, if you are going down the Zaino pathWash with dish washing soapclaywashswirl removerswirl remover (until swirls & small scratches are gone)polishpolish::::::::polish

I normally quickly spray the car with the detail spray between coatsand then after I'm done.

I know several folks in MCA that were using Zaino and winning.

However, will still have to checkout the product that mnotx mentioned that is winning over the corvette club.....

Come on Rich! I may be a ford hater, but I am a dog lover! (Not in THAT way). lol
