So this past weekend was the weekend that my mechanical oil pressure finally began to work. After about a year of just watching it at zero, it finally gave me some readings. Before i continue, the twenty dollar difference isnt worth saving. Just get the electrical. I love the 10 psi increments on my autometer but the hassle isnt worth it.

To hook it up, need oil pressure gauge (duh), line (whether it be the nylon one that it came with or the stainless steel braided one i used), and fitting to go into block.

The gauge was from summit racing ($42), the stainless steel braided line was from paragdim performance (10 ft., ran $50), and the fitting from http://www.tunertoyz.com ($20).

The fitting is a pretty neat piece. It has a male BSPT end which screws into the block, a female BSPT end at the top which you screw in your factory oil pressure sender switch, and TWO 1/8th NPT female holes on the side of the fitting. One of the NPT holes came with a allen key plug in it, and the other was open. One is ran for the gauge, and the other is for my future turbo oil feed line. This fitting definitely beats the brass fittings as i hear of them leaking and this is one piece, so less connections. Plus for 20 bux, saves ya the hassle of assembling the little brass pieces.

Anyway, took three hours to run the frickin line. The main issue was the oil pressure sender switch. We first tried a 27mm socket but it wasnt deep enough. We then tried a 27mm deep socket but the brace on the underside of the intake mani didnt allow us to use the socket since the wall of the socket was too thick. Finally, this led us to pulling off the oil filter and using a vice grip to unscrew the thing. This worked but just make sure to clean off the switch b/f attempting. Then came the running of the line. This took longer than it should have due to me and my dad trying to run it in a crevice up near the front of the dash and the side of the car. We pulled down the bottom of the dash and tried that route but we gave up and just ran it along the side of the door part of the dash. The line is only visible if the door is flung wide open, but it is tucked neatly back there. Anyway, that was my story for the weekend.

If anyone needs pics lemme know. Hopefully this will help out any of yall that were trying to install a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

thanks for the correction loveless. there is a similar adaptor made by nisport, but it runs 50 bux. lt is also a hexagon piece but it has 3 NPT ports instead of 2.

There's the oil filter sandwich adapter that SPL sells too. It's got two 1/8 bspt ports for $68.
