I was driving earlier tonight i was down shifting into fourth but accidently went to second i was cruzing bout 80mph rpms went to redline at about 7400 it was released in second gear for .05 seconds but right after, i felt extreme powerloss i stopped at a gas staion up the road and popped the hood there was a little smoke smelled like somthing burning. kinda coming from the rear of the engine. started it back up and it was sputtering sounded kinda like a miss, there is no knocking sound, common lifter tick, posibly the vtc springs rattleing, doesnt smoke before or after. the car was shaking at idle, when driving home when gas was aplied i could feel it lurching. does anyone have any ideas to my problem. thanks in advance. :frown:

Are you getting any valve noise? Lifter has a different sound...when the car is revved past the redline "valve float" becomes possible...where the valvetrain can not keep up with the speed of the crank/cams. It is possible to bend a valve that way. Who knows though, you may have gotten lucky! Hopefully right? :)

You could always compression test and see how it looks.

compression test it like stated above and that will help you find the problem, its easy just go to the autozone or whatever and rent it

Yeah man I would really do the compression test if you can. If you can't find it for rent anywhere, Sears has the tool for around $50 last time I saw it.

lol good job :P

just fyi, tt swap is not something you wanna do if you're a broke college student...it's very expensive and there is no way around that! the way i look at it is, maybe later on in life i can do it, and if not, ill just buy another one, or maybe even a newer Z lol

Not sure about the ECU but you don't wanna put used turbos on man. If possible you want new ones, or even just some used ones from a trustworthy source where you know the shape they are in. Then you would def want to do the 120k kit. So you would be about ready then, but it'd also be good to have a stack of money aside for a clutch if needed, and other things like motor mounts, transmission mount, hoses, etc (things you want to replace during motor pull). You are well over another $1,000 at that point. Probably over $1,500. Then add the price of the clip, and that's a more ballpark number. Def wait for the guys who have done it to chime in...marty comes to mind haha

I bought the equivalent of a clip for about $3k. I still spent over $10k by the time I was done. Many of the things were already upgraded with the setup I bought as well. It came with Stillen SMIC, JWT ECU, RPS sport clutch w/ only 8k on it, newish turbos (less than 15k miles on them). The timing belt was also recently done. Believe me, there is more than just the clip.

With a clip, you have at least 50/50 odds the turbos will be toast or at least weak. You will need a 120k kit for it at $600 (no labor included). Plus usually you need motor mounts @ $160. The oil pans on the clips tend to be smashed, so there's another $200, If it doesn't come with a front bumper in good shape, you need one of them too....

The bottom line is if you really want a Twin Turbo, sell your car and go buy one in nice shape. In the end, it's significantly cheaper...

my motor mounts costed me ~$50 :D

never thought I'd say this, but thank you Ford for doing something right lol
with minor modification, the mounts from the old straight 6 f150 work fine!

Alright, just got done doing the 60K maitnace. Runs beautifuly while i had it apart i saw vacume lines i replaced and the #3 saprk plug it was super fouled and the coil plug was broken so it wasn't making good conection. So thankfuly nothing else was wrong other than what i listed and the timing belt being streched i think the tensioner was so rusted i dont think it was doing much.
Thanks everyone who contributed and im still wanting a tt of course  but i think i should wait till i can afford her.

you should probably do a deeper inspection, assuming that you already did some sort of inspection
i don't think something really bad could have happened to your car. i really hope you didnt.

yeah been driving her everything is grand:)but its one thing after another, now the clutch slips under hard accel. just before this whole mishap i put a Z1 6 puck and pres. plate so i called em they want pics of the clutch, i guess to see if it is faulty.when i recived the clutch there were chips in the pads but i had to put it in i needed wheels. So now i gotta pull the transmission out and be out of a car for however long it will take for them to send me a new one. whis i had the extra dough to get some headers!
