Help woth cluster and tac

I have an aftermarket rpm gage in my 1993 240sx and i have it wired up to the sub harness of the cluster,but the after market rpm gage only works when the cluster is plugged up.Is there any way to get only the after market rpm gage to work without the cluster.

my tach wont work unless i have spliced into the gauge cluster with all of it plugged in. im trying to get rid of the damn cluster. how do i go about doing this?

i believe you get the signal from the ignition coil on the s13, and from the dizzy on the s14.
