Car: right now, getting this car running

1991 240sx se. Replaced head . I've put the car back together now. Fuel pressure is fine, timing marks lined up, new plugs, everything electrical checks out, checked fuses, rotated disributor, getting spark on all for plugs. Seems like if you can name it, I've probably checked it. All the engine will do is rotate. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

does it sound like it has compression? Are you smelling fuel from the exhaust?

When you say "distributor lined up correctly" do you mean that there are marks to line it to or just that it should be rotated until it finally starts? On thing that seems peculiar, and I'm not sure if it's right or not, is that when we pull the distrubutor out it just slides out smoothly, but ging back in it catches and we have to rotate the motor by hand to get it to slide in. Any ideas?

theres ur problem. on the distributor theres the shaft that goes into the head. ont he end of the silver part is a timing mark. then on the brown part there is a shaft pin that comes through both sides. next to the shaft pin on one side is another timing mark. line up the shaft pin with the timing mark with the timing mark on the silver shaft. so shaft pin lined up with silver timing mark. it wont start by rotating the distributor i've tried

Timing is off. You almost have the car running, you're not far off.

Like Structure, you got to line it up. There like a little half moon on the end of the oil pump shaft..you'll see when you look :)

good luck :)

There is no oil pump shaft on the distributor for the DOHC motors. The easiest way to do it is to set the motor at TDC, set the rotor so it is just a little before the number contact on the cap. Put everything back together and it should fire right up. If it doesn't, it may be 180 off.

I am having the exact same problem on my 95 240 sx. Did you get it running yet? If so, what worked! This is driving me nuts.
