Hey all, I got a question for the CA gods.. I just finished swaping in my CA into my 240, the thing is everything seems to work fine, but I cannot get the car to stay running, I sprayed starting fluid just to get it going, but it just shuts off, I suspected a problem with the fuel, but after checking over my wiring, everything seems to check out.. now the thing is I have done swaps before, but they were on duel cam cars.. I have a '90 Single cam.. is there anything I need to know or how to wire this correctly??

Any help would be appreciated!!

I'm desperate! I wanna drive this car!!

Thanks!

did you replace the fuel pump? and, can you hear it running? Two suggestions, but wait for a true god to appear.....

Spark but no fuel.

Check fuses first.

Then check for 12v on the fuel pump (black/pink) and at the fuel pump (connector has one ground, one power). You should have an ~8 second prime when the ignition is turned on.

You can also remove the rear seats and you'll be able to hear the pump when you flick the ignition to "ON".

You have to give us more details, does it try to rev, how long does it stay running, does it hesitate badly when you try to rev it. Assuming (I hate using this word) that the wiring is done correctly, check for your fuel lines make sure that they aren't reversed, check if the maf is connected properly, listen to your fuel pump, make sure it is priming for a period of 5sec or so, You can always do a diagnostics on the ecu and see what kind of errors it spits out.

Ok.. the engine is turning, but it is not firing.. I should be able to somewhat hear the fuel pump buzz (but it is the stock one, not a walbro or anything) The only way I can actually get the engine to run is by spraying some starting fluid through the maf... it will run for a few seconds, then just die.. I did rev it up, but then it just quits on me.. we pulled the plugs to check for raw fuel, but came up nothing.. I am using a sohc car for this swap if that makes any difference when it comes to the wiring, but I assume I have it all correct.. I just wired it up like an SR.. I'm gonna have another look at it today.

Well you have to find out if your fuel pump is working, one easy way, is to disconnect the fuel hose that goes onto the engine, and plug it in a plastic bottle or what ever container you got, this way you prevent gas from going all over the engine bay and you prevent any fire hazard situation.when you do that, open your igntion and see if there is gas going into the bottle, try to crank it for about 5 sec and see if you also get some gas, if no gas is coming out, your wiring to the fuel pump isn't right, recheck your wiring. If there is gas going into the container/bottle, then very good chances that your injectors are clogged, keep spraying some more starter fluid and eventually they will kick in, but be prepared to replace them if it is going to take a bottle of quick start to get it going.

Thanks for the info all! As far as the fuel, I pulled the line off and got fuel coming out now.. my friend was saying that the injectors could be stuck.. I think you guys are correct on this.. also, is the dropping resistor needed?? I think its the ground pack looking thing on the stock air box..

YOU definitely need the dropping resistor pack, other wise the injectors won't get the signal to turn them on and off, and no you can't use the one on your ka engine, the one you need has an aluminum rectangular case, YOu can get it from a junkyard of a 1987 nissan pulsar with a ca16de engine, the ca18de pulsars don't have it, only the ca16de has it

The dropping resistor I am using is the one off the S13 clip I got.. it was cut, but I just soldered the wires and grounded it to the chassis..

uh, k, I thought you were using the one for the ka, you should be ok, as long long as you wired it up correctly.

If you need a dropping resistor I have one that I got from an 87 Pulsar just yesterday. If anyone wants something else, pretty sure I can get it, but you should be able to find a Pulsar at a junkyard near you.

Sure it's rod knock? Mine made some noise when I first started it up and my friend helping thought it was rod knock, but it was actually just the lifters being noisey because they were dry. After I let it idle for a bit, they got pumped up and quit.
