help me out guys. My girlfriend drove her 96 accord over a curb and down an embankment. Its an automatic and now when you let your foot off the gas pedal it makes a horrible whirring/clicking/grinding noise. But its not as loud as grinding gears or missing a shift in a manual transmission. This noise lasts for about 2 or 3 seconds. There are scrape marks under the car but none on the transmission itself. Any ideas? P.S. Please go easy on my girl, she is a pretty new driver and already feels really bad and embaressed about the incident. Thanks.

well, it turns out that it had been making that noise before the curb thing happened. The owner had thought it was the brakes because it happens when you let off the gas and push the brakes (but it happens when you dont push the brakes too). But its still not good that her car is doing this. when it happens there is no vibration shaking, jerking or any effect on the way the car drives. Just the noise that seems to be coming from the transmission, no check engine lights or anything. Kinda sounds like the starter that sometimes wouldnt work on a chevy truck I used to drive. we are going to take it in and have it checked out since she just got it as a company car.

I have had a few hondas that have made noises like that due to bad wheel bearings-normally they will not make noiseunder accel or brakeing-only under decel-another possibility is that one of the cv shafts have been pushed in-by a hit to either side of suspension-like hitting a curb-you might try to run the car in the air with no load on the wheeld t verify if it is the bearings-just be careful to support the car wellhope this helps!!!

the inner cv boot on the right side (closest one to transmission) has a small tear and has leaked some grease out. But it doesnt make the clicking noise while turning. Thanks for the reply scooter, i will look in to what you mentioned.
