Or instead of risking damage/injury...crzycav86 wrote:Get a ratchet hooked up to a long breaker bar....
Put breaker bar against the ground and turn the motor on for a split second(don't let it start!)
...that's the easiest way.
Have you tried that? When I was doing my timing chain, I tried something like that, and it just slipped the clutch. I put it in first gear though. It really shouldn't matter because the wheels don't turn.Titan wrote:Or instead of risking damage/injury...
Put it in 5th gear, this is the tallest gear and will offer the most resistance. From there on in, use a breaker bar or slide a pipe over your rachet.
Yes I have tried that and it worked perfectly.crzycav86 wrote:

Sure, if you could fit an impact gun inbetween the pully and the rad. I know I didnt have room for that.240marcuSX wrote:or you could just use and impact. the hardest part is getting the old pulley off of the crank....
Cool. Good to know.Titan wrote:Yes I have tried that and it worked perfectly.
It does matter what gear you have it in. I know exactly what you are talking about. I tried it in first gear and there was a large amount of springback. Then I placed it in fifth gear and there was far less slack, which enabled me to loosen it.
It makes a difference because the majority of the springback is generated through your transmission due to all the gear lash. Well before that torque gets transmitted to your wheels.
