Hello, I have an 03 M45 with just 23000 miles on it. I am having trouble with the Trunk lid sucking itself close everytime I go to open it using the trunk release inside of the car. I have brought it into the dealership twice, but they can't seem to fix the problem. They've replaced lock and whatever the sucking mechanism is called with new ones but it still seems to suck itself in most of the time. What can I do?

There is a TSB on this ... just posted here recently too. I am not sure if this is enough for your particular problem or not.

You might also try ti convince them to replace the struts for the trunk. I think this is the real cause - insufficient activation force!

Mine have finally failed mostly (trunk will not even stay up!), so I am taking it in tomorrow to get them to look at these and replace. Although I think the replacement struts are not an stocked item, so I suspect they will need to order them and I will have to go in again ... sigh!

Thanks for the reply, I think they did perform the TSB on the trunk, but it doesn't seem to help. Maybe I'll bring it in again and complain about the trunk struts. My other thought was to do the Auto trunk lid mod that is available for the Q45 that I think works on the M45.

I think you are already aware of this, but here is your answer/fix, but it'll cost you.showthread.php?t=96678

I have the same issue, especially when the car is cold. JasonB has the hook up on the heavy duty trunk struts. I took my car in and got to replace struts replaced and still.... nothing.

Okay ... my trunk struts have been replaced under warranty!

Took the dealer seven days days because they had to order the parts and it took a while to get the struts delivered. Not surprising ... this is not something I would really expect the local dealers to keep in their parts inventory. So I am okay with the delay ...

I got to use a 2006 G35 loaner for those days (if I had had to go back in, the appoiintments were backlogged almost 2 weeks, so the Service rep said it would be better to just keep the loaner till they finished the work and got that week of loaner car use okayed, even though my car was completely drivable. Good enough!).
